Halo has always been somewhat similar to Tribes.  Jetpacks alone doesn't make it any moreso.

Well Jetpacks, different loadouts, loadout-based skills and weapons, vehicles (i know halo has always had them) in a team class-based combat game is at least somewhat a tribes clone. The intense tribes/team fortress push here makes even the boring Halo universe look fun.

I can't wait to read all the threads about how innovate and awesome it is that Bungie came up with such an original idea.

Firstly IMO, Halo is the most interesting universe in gaming aside from Mass Effect. 2ndly, Halo was innovative in terms of limited weapons holding. But apart from that what makes Halo isnt the innovation as such. But implementation. Halo always new what it was, and hasn't changed to suit other FPS changes. The minute Halo strays from it's formula, is the minute it loses players. After all it's a completely different experience than the usual FPS clones on consoles these days ( KZ2, MW2, BFBC2 ) etc. They are all similar. Halo is so different from them. It would explain why Halo 3 still can pull in more Live users than MW2 most weeks. MW1 had some weeks above Halo 3 but Halo 3 got back on top after like 2 months of MW1 being out. 2 different tastes.

Reach looks amazing. I thought DVD was recently touted as a hinderence to HD Gaming. With 720p Native res, 4xMSAA and more content than any other shooter ever in 1 package at what point does DVD show it's strains?

It is showing since 2005.

But war... war never changes

So far I havent seen a single post saying its a bungie innovation.  I have seen several saying its about time though.  Tribes is still highly regarded by many as one of the top FPS of all time but its been 12 years...and nothing has encorporated many of the things that made tribes so fun to play.  Nothing in the fps world is really innovative these days on any platform, the best you can hope for are tweaks and additions to make it more engaging and more fun.  In the end its not going to sway most people, halo haters are going to be halo haters but people who are generally indifferent to it will probably see this one as an interesting game to look forward to.  I didn even play Halo 3 and was given ODST for christmas and still havent even opened it but im really excited about what I see so far with this one.

Tribes series was some crazy shit hehehehehehehehehehe.

@selnor: I like how you take a jab at FPS clones, while defending Halo as a completely different experience after watching a trailer where a new Halo game is taking a lot directly from one of the best online shooters of all time (Tribes). Orange Box also has way more on a single DVD disc than Reach will.

@tyig: I said it looked fun in my post. Most games of this style are very fun so long as they're balanced. I'm still expecting Halo fans to come of the woodwork around review time to praise Bungie for their innovation and mastery of the genre.

Demon's Souls Official Thread  | Currently playing: Left 4 Dead 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, Magicka

Is this that groundbreaking news that they were talking about?

Talk about mega-fail on that statement. Looks good, but nothing to ZOMGZORS about.

Damn!!  And enter GOTY 2010!!!

Anyone else notice the sniper now has kinda a cooldown where the reticule takes a couple seconds to get back to normal?

Very good. I like.

As long as jetpacks are only like a powerup or something and not standard for everyone, great! If its standard for everyone in every gametype then I will grow to hate it as it will become way too sky based...

So you seem to know what Loadout means? Is it a pre-game loadout? Is it a credit based loadout (aka Counter Strike)? Is it a station based load out(Tribes)? What can be loaded(armor perms, weapons, etc)? There is a lot unknown, and saying it is class based is stretching it pretty far.

The real comparison to Tribes is mainly in gameplay style and not feature sets. Jetpacks are nothing special, vehicles are nothing special(although, no other game's vehicles control as well as Halo's), etc. It is mainly a hard to place feeling that the combat and mechanics of Halo are similar to Tribes. The mixture of guns, grenades, and vehicles are most likely the candidate with Halo placing an emphasis on melees as well.

I saw that and I liked it alot!  I also liked the new King of the Hill thing.

Did anyone else see the one character do a roll?

That would be cool. Tribes was an amazing game
