Forums - Gaming Discussion - 2007, best year of games ever? Let's compare.

What??? Does this site or whatever not know of the Saturn cause it should have at least a couple of games on that list. Also, what about Tomb Raider being Multi System since it did technically Debut on the Sega Saturn. I'm sorry but Saturn is a good system and dosen't deserve to be overlooked like that.

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.

1998 was definatley the best year of games though going by what I see on this list.

actually 2007 90+ are

super mario galaxy 98
bioshock 96
orange box 96
call of duty 4 95
oblivion(ps3) 93
halo 3 94
guitar hero 2 92
god of war 2 93
metroid prime 3 90
resident evil 4 91
forza motorsport 2 90
phantom hourglass 90
virtua fighter 5 90

and games that have a shot are mass efect and rock band
so that 13+2=15 putting it just lower then 2001

I was going to post this. (How did Call of Duty 4 get left off ckmlb's original list when it's at 95%?)

It's still early, but Mass Effect is currently 92, Rock Band is currently 94.5.

But wait, there's more. What about the PC?

-Crysis 93

-World in Conflict 89

-plus of course Orange Box (96), BioShock (96), and CoD4 (93) all above 90, and Gears of War at 89.

So with Crysis, Mass Effect and Rock Band that's 16, same as 2001.

And if UT3 scores 90+ or Ratchet (89) somehow gains 1 point or Uncharted (currently 87) gains 3, 2007 would have 17 90% games, one more than 2001, with 4 games rated 95% or higher.

And how many of those 16 90%+ games came out between August and November 2007? This may have been the best four months in video game history.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Hmmm... not sure if this is the best way to gauge 'best'. Keep in mind that the bar has been raised when it comes to a 'good' game. What worked in 2001 generally won't fly today.

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

That is true, nowadays seems almost every high profile game gets 10's for because. I could say that to even things out we should compare something like +93% instead of +90% for 2007.

I'd say 2007 was more the year of overhyped games, which sold well accordingly.

I agree. Bioshock, Halo 3, and the many PS3 "Killer apps" come to mind.

I missed COD 4, Mass Effect is way too early to count the reviews' average.
