Eurogamer Review: 8/10
"At times you'll have no doubts that this is the best JRPG of the generation, a fast-paced, interesting and creative detour from a stagnant mainstream. At other moments, usually when facing the tenth Game Over screen during a difficult boss battle, you'll wonder whether the game suffers from poor balance, born from its developer's stubborn insistence on novelty for the sake of it.
Either way, by the end of the adventure you'll be certain that Resonance of Fate's approach is a one-time affair, unlikely to inspire any copycats. Its ideas are simply too leftfield, and too fully realised to be closely imitated.
Nevertheless, this is a hugely interesting game, as fascinating as it is frequently frustrating, as engaging as it is eccentric and, for those who are hooked by its quirky charms, it will provide one of the most inspired approaches to the JRPG seen in a decade."

Hmmm I may or may not pick this game up for 360 tomorrow. Combat looks interesting I just wonder how much depth their really is to the battles.

What do you call superior? The framerate is better in the PS3 version of SO and the AA is also better.. Both look pretty identicall though, we aren't talking about a FXIII or Bayonetta difference. |
Have you looked at the detailed comparisons? The PS3 version of SO4 could be called superior by many because of the content (anime portaits, Japanese voice work, etc) but on a technical level, the PS3 version was behind the 360 version quite clearly, from frame rate to effects (shadows, lighting, etc). Oh, and full-screen blur is not a substitute for actual anti-aliasing. Both games suffered from sub-HD resolutions and absolute crap art direction, however.
I thought the whole game was shit outside of the battle system, myself, and I regretted purchasing it at all on the 360 back when it was first released.
Thankfully, Resonance of Fate is looking much better.
