Forums - Sony Discussion - Heavy Rain prediction fail

Off topic: People who like Heavy Rain should try Shadow of Destiny on the PS2. It's the last game (besides Indigo Prophecy) that I played that felt like this. It's almost 10 years old, though.

Yep, I'm playing the recent port that went out for PSP a few months ago (US import since it hasn't arrived yet to Europe). The game is 9-10 years old, but it's awesome. I always wanted to play it on PS2, but I couldn't afford it at that time and I missed it.

Regarding Heavy Rain... Wow, I'm at the middle of the game and I like it a lot. Reminds me a little bit of Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. Maybe the story-telling component is better driven, or it might be the plot is better built.

Also, the characters appeal to me. They all have strong, mature, well-defined personalities. It is my second most anticipated game for this 2010, and so far it is proving it was well-deserved. Graphics are not the best of the console, but they are superb. Action is real fun for me, QTEs are very well implemented, in part thanks to the SIXAXIS.

In terms of sales, I think it has been well recieved. If you guys say there are shortages (unbelievable, what a phail from Sony), and given the good word of mouth, the demo that preceeded, and the good legs that historically follow Sony titles, I guess it can reach 1.5 million in holidays.

On the other hand, we must take into account that many people will choose to borrow/rent/ it or sell/lend it. I'm afraid it could kill some sales (I hope it doesn't).

That's my 2cents. Congratulations to the gaming community ^^.

edit: phailed on typing phail. Ironic, isn't it? xD

500,000 in week one, is a very good accomplishment considering the very new concept of gameplay mechanics and story. It seems this being the first of it's kind has attracted many fans, and elevated gaming to a different level.

Except the gameplay isn't really shown in the marketing. Of course that's common in video game hype, but that is is common shows the exact details of the gameplay is rarely a factor in general first week sales unless a game is in a familiar series.

Yes, this even applies to Wii games (when we don't see the full context of Wiimote use compared to the on screen action), and it's been applied since... even the NES days (the ads for Zelda II didn't show that much gameplay).

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

hey, maybe this game will accomplish what avatar did in cinemas, and sales will drop only by 2% on second week :P (I wish)

Is it the first exclusive on ps3 that almost everybody expected to flop but didn't? I myself didn't expect more then 300k lifetime and nintendo fanboy gloating about how hardcore games don't sell on ps3

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

didn't see the killer coming, hell of a thing.

I still haven't seen one advertisement on tv for this game yet
Im glad it sold well, Quantic Dreams should be very happy with the first week results

You're asking why it's selling better than Lair and The Conduit? Well, did you ever think that maybe Heavy Rain is a great game and those other games suck?
