Forums - Sony Discussion - If I buy a ps3 slim - could i copy game saves from old ps3 with date issue?

cool - justwondered if tit was tied into hardware at all or maybe attach a dodgy date stsamp somewhere.

Like to know these things before splashing out on a new console.

I believe even the locked saves can be copied with the new transfer utility. (the one you use a Ethernet cable to perform)

yes, you can even do it wirelessly thanks to the latest firmware

Go to save game data and attempt to copy it, or look at the properties, some games are locked so as to prevent save data sharing between accounts. But most copy over fine

ah so it tells you which ones are locked - thats good to know.

Connect the two PS3s with an ethernet cable and you can move ALL your stuff to your new PS3. Its a new feautre since FW 3.15 (or was it 3.10 ?)

You can do a data transfer from one PS3 to the next but be warned the data transfer will format both PS3's at some point during the process, the formatting is done to make sure that no 2 PS3 have the same user data at the same time, or create a loophole for abusers/hackers to share game saves and DLC, or PSN titles.

If you want to copy save games only please note that some games are copy protected and can only work on the PS3 that it was originally saved on. To find out which save file is copy protected just press triangle on the save file and scroll down to info, somewhere in that sub menu will have information on whether or not the file is protected.

For the unprotected file you can use a USB memory stick to transfer the file, again to do so, locate the save file press triangle on it and look for the option to copy to USB device.

Actually what happens with copy protected files is that they automatically get deleted from the PS3 your transfering it from right after the transef is over
