Forums - Sales - 3 reasons why Halo: Reach WON'T outsell Modern Warfare 2

Halo Reach will kill MW2 sales on the 360, it is a no brainer.

Halo Reach in the Halo universe is a huuuge event, a very dark story that basically talks about the mass death of the 500 or so colonies.
The game is being bigged up as basically Halo 4 and the advertising campaign has pretty much already started even though we are about 9 months away. You check the trending and your see how popular it is.

I think when this is all said and done we are probably looking at Halo 3 numbers with this game simply because a lot of people see this as the last Bungie Halo game, it will be massive.

only a noob would think halo reach would outsell modern warfare 2. modern warfare 2 is THE biggest game in the world NOW! its massive! it wasnt even being treated like a game release, more like a huge movie release with everyone talking about it and stuff. halo in comparison is only really popular in america. it doesnt have the selling power else where.

No need for 3 points - your third point is more than enough.

MW2 is close to 10 million already (on just the 360) where as Halo 3 is sitting just shy of 11 million, and like you said there is a 2 year gap from when Halo 3 came out than to when MW2 came out. Granted there are a lot more 360 consoles out there, but just look at the numbers ODST put up, not that great.

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos

It will outsell it on the 360 for sure.

Definitely not outselling MW2, but instead Halo 3.

Where are people getting that Reach isn't a sequel? It's actually the FINAL sequel that Bungie's making, it's going to be HUGE...

Does it explain what happens to Master Chief at the end of Halo 3? No, because it's not a sequel. Reach takes place on the planet Reach, and this all happens before the plot in Halo 1.

This may be the biggest Halo game since 3, but it doesn't take place after it in terms of story.

Sequels don't have to be narratively sequential (Dragon Quest III takes place before Dragon Quest I for example, ditto for Castlevania III and Castlevania I).  I mean, you can call Reach a prequel technically, but semantics aside the fact remains, it's a mainline Halo game in the mainline series, and the final game from the mainline developers.  Anyone trying to claim lowered sales because it's doesn't directly continue Halo 3's narrative is clueless.

If it DOES you're all gonna eat CROW!

ODST is irrelevant. It is an expansion pack, not a sequel.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

Maybe we could, oh I don't know, see the game? Play the demo? Know ANY gameplay details before we make a decision about it?

No one but the hardcore was hyped about Reach until X10, where virtually every journalist there said "Wow" when they saw it. If it truly is a "Wow", combined with the Halo brand, it'll sell through the roof.

They are still doing 500 thousand unique gamertags a day. So not only did people buy H3, they still play H3. That's a huge number for a going-on three-year old game. So 1 in 20 people who bought it log into it every day three years later? That's just downright impressive in this age of everyone chasing the next hot title.

Underestimate Bungie and Halo's power as a franchise at your own peril.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

It's like saying Gran Turismo is doomed because Prologue sold less copies that previous installments.
