When did Nintendo ads suddenly become...negative? Did Nintendo have to do a 180 and start making fun of popular shows for attention? I donno....I'm sure this will increase the sales for the games somewhat, but you catch for flies with honey.

Frankly speaking, these commercials will most likely only appeal to certain people. And that's NOT the effect you want to go for.

As a side note: I hope the fact that this game is getting commercials and things is a good sign that Dragon Quest IX will as well.

Yeah because these kind of ads doesn't work right?

How is that commercial negative?  Its not trying to poke fun at something popular to gain attention.  In fact, its immitating a well known used car dealer from outside of LA in California while showing off gameplay of the game.  Heck, that same guy was even parodied in various movies, such as 'The Muppet Movie'.  In other words, it was clever.  But you know what it wasn't?  It wasn't negative.

The other ad was just using footage from Dedliest Catch and trying to do the classic piggy back off its popularity, but by mocking it.  Which in effect, is pointless.  If they did a commercial like this one, say having the guy stuck on the boat trying to catch crabs and then say 'I'm tired of this, I'm going back to the hunting grounds' or something, then it would have been clever AND made the connection to the popular show.  Instead, they mocked the show (which will make many of the fans of that show angry) and it had an overall negative tone (which will turn off many more people).

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Love the fox hunting one, I hope that makes it to Britain!

The sad part is this game could sell over 500K in its first week, and the press will either ignore it or still try to claim it's a flop.

But this game does look great, and I will go to Gamestop to get the demo.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

It won't sell over 500K in it's first week...

It's not really that popular in the west, and it certainly doesn't have the base on Wii. If it does well it'll do it on legs.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Final Fantasy wasn't popular in the west until VII. So using past games to judge the first game that's getting a real marketing push is not a valid comparison.

Regardless of what I feel about Heavy Rain, the genre didn't get really big sales for years, so many of us were wrong in using that as a way to indicate the sales versus using marketing as a factor.

New one.

That's a fantastic ad.

I can't wait to see the actual TV ads.
