Forums - Gaming - I think this would be awesome - but it will never happen

Next Gen, Sony and Microsoft team up to bring us 1 HD console, can you imagine?

Nintendo would be screwed, I don't care if you are a diehard Nintendo fan, that would be the ultimate alliance, they would rule the world!!! (of video games at least)

Makes sense though, developers would probably love it, only one console to make games for, and with the $ Sony and MS have behind them...

I can't think of any cons to that, only pros.

What are your thoughts?

Best Console Evar.

It would be ideal for gamers, but I doubt it would happen.
They would call it X-Station :P

At some point, something must have come from nothing...

If competition doesnt exist, the quality of the product drops, so I prefer them rivaling each other :)

There is still Nintendo...

And I don't know if quality would really drop, game companies (not all but a lot) take pride in their work, look at companies like Naughty Dog (or Bioware so I don't get flamed by the 360 fans).  Also we as consumers tend to expect a certain level from our games.  If they did merge and we started seeing a bunch of shitty games, I think the industry would take a hit, as we are accustomed to a certain level of gaming.

Granted, innovation may take a hit.
