I don't get how everyone seems to think PS3 will be this console that will magically sell strong for 10 years despite it selling poorly, while the Wii will plummet down far quicker despite it selling much greater amounts.

Usually a console selling less indicates its life will be shorter and a console selling strongly means it will last longer, it is not the other way around..

Its reality boy.

Every year since coming out, PS3 sales have increases.  This year is already showing increse of sales over previous one, and thats with big shortages though out NA and Europe.

Considering how abysmal PS3's showing was during the holidays last season and the months following up until the SLim introduction it isn't hard for the PS3 to sell more yoy. Though come september on it will find it quite difficult to match last years numbers. Where Wii is in the opposite spectrum of having a strong momentum last year following the holidays and began slowing around march of last year where Wii will begin to be up yoy if things hold as they are.

But Metalllic is right, it is funny how every Year PS3 is 'poised to dominate' while Wii is always poised to falter, despite always being the dominant player month in and month out and year in and year out. Its baffling.

How So?

the very fact this yer you have GOD OF WAR III, GT, Than that does not include what Sony has instore for E3 .

and this is when the Playstation 3 is at $299.00

are you saying the Demand for the playstation is going to dry up where they cannot match last year's sale's?

most if not all of last year it was $399.00 until oct. of 2009 has demand bottomed out for the PS3?

it's very subjective on how you view it.

I'm not really sure Sony first party games can provide it sustained momentum. How many units are you expecting GoD3 to move?

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

People thinking the PS3 sales will explode are being far to optimistic. Already this year the sales have slowed as they normally do after a large price cut. Right now if the PS3 continues at the pace it is currently showing and with the exact same November and December sales this upcoming fall it will hit right around 13 million for the year. September and October wont be anything like September and October 2009.

Depanding on when GT5 comes out, xmas 09 will be nothing compared to Xmas 2010

Sorry GT5 is not going to push consoles to an extent that changes the shipment numbers from 13m to 15m.  Maybe 13m to 13.1m.

When a console has already sold about 40m consoles and GT5p already out and caused the GT fanatics to enter the market GT5 will have minimal impact.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Thats around 70 million units to go(roughly)- and its at a $299 price point- past its third year entering its fourth soon. Usually the time PS hardware peaks. If it were to sell 15million+ units a year for the next 4-5 yrs.. it would touch 100million.

Its possible.

Though Im guessing by the time SONY can get their prices down to an acceptable mass market level(we are looking at the magic $199 and lower figure here)- we will be seeing glimpses of the 720 and wii HD.

that depend's on where you are talking about when the PS3 was released

consider that the PS3 will have just turned 3 year's old in Europe

as of  March 23, 2010/ remember the PS3 was released in Europe March 23, 2007.

the PS3 was only released in nov 2006 for notth america and south america, with japan releasing 6 day's before on the 11 nov 2006

though I would agree at the glimpses of the 720 and Wii HD when that will be is anyone's guess.

wii hd wont casue the others to rush into the next gen, given GC to wii jump.  Its power will be no greater then 360 or PS3.

While Sony and MS are content with riding out this gen as long as possible.

YAhh it will, Sony knows damn well they better have huge stock for holidays especially if thats their GT5 release date.

GT fanataic yahh, but not the car guys.  They did not buy into the $40 demo.  Mostly becasue their cars vere not in GT5p so they had no reason for playing it.

you are thinking it of just 1st party, Sony has been getting from 3rd party just as much support as rthe xbox360 is getting, as for GOD of War III not just one game is all that matter's to a game system, because if you were only looking at one game why worry about any other game for any system?

just because other system's may have greater sale's does not mean the system with the lowest software sale's is any less valid option, if that was the case 24 million people would not have enjoyed the first xbox!

I think god of war III will sell 3.5 million copy's how may of those will be new install base has yet to be seen.

its the catalog that matter's not just one game ,

Unfortunately, probably not quite that much. However Sony will surely keep the PS3 on the market until they are content with its performance and as proven with the last two Playstations, they certainly have a long life in them. The PS3 in particular is very future-proofed with its features and cell processor, so its kind of dependent on whether or not the competition decides to make the next big horsepower leap. Not likely from Nintendo; they're doing just fine with the Wii, and Microsoft has lost so much money with their Xbox projects (Xbox 1 lost over a billion a year for the company), they'd be wise to keep the 360 going as long as they can without releasing a whole new console. If Sony can sustain a ten year life span as planned, then with price cuts and lots of killer exclusives it is much more likely.

yes I agree ,but the main problem looking ahead just in the united states alone 20 million job's need to be recovered,

than

let's put in the recession just now letting up, it's not even overwith

and Microsft lost 1.8 +billion on the xbox360 DUE TO A FAULT IN THE  early hardware, that does not include redesign's adding 256MB of flashable ram to the Arcade unit.

Microsoft want's that money back and they are well on their way to getting it back.

I think Microsoft is less likely to release sooner rather than later, they may still release their next system before Sony does , but I do think's it not going to as soon as many may think.
