Forums - Nintendo - Gamespot: Metroid Other M HANDS ON + VIDEO

http://www.gamespot.com/events/nintendo10/story.html?sid=6251919

"At this point, Metroid: Other M seems to succeed in creating a new type of Metroid experience, but it's really hard to explain just how different it feels until you get your hands on it. The mixture of old Metroid and Metroid Prime elements seems like it's not an amazing fit initially, but changing from third- to first-person feels more natural as time goes on. We'll have more on Metroid: Other M before its release on June 27."

Sorry, tried to embed the question/answer video, but it kept being all wierd and not aligned within the box.

"If you point the Wiimote at the screen, you’ll automatically jump into first-person mode. In first-person, which looks just like Prime, you can’t move your feet. You can rotate in place, looking up, down, and all around, by holding the B button. This is also used to lock on to things you want to examine, and most importantly lock on to enemies. Once you’re locked on, you can blast them with your arm cannon or fire missiles at them. You can only fire missiles in first-person"

Theres igns

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I'm waiting to hear more about this game. As of now I'm on the fence. The idea of 2-D to 3-D switching is interesting but I don't know if I like the idea of not being able to move in the first person mode.. I can't see that working out too well. Also, one of the main selling points of the game seems to be the story, which I don't really care about, especially in a Metroid game.

This has delighted me in all sorts of way..

Did you follow the link? There's a video.

So you hold the Wiimote NES style and point at the screen to go into first person. Gameplay is a mixture of 2D and 3D Metroid and the game will be very story driven.

It definitely sounds interesting.
