Forums - PC Discussion - World's Slowest CPU - on my Laptop!

if it is overheating, then your fan may have failed. Also, try replacing the thermal paste on the CPU.

Also, that isn't all that slow, as I used to have both a Intel 486 (I'm pretty sure it was one of those 66/33 MHz CPUs), and I had whatever came in those old XT computers (had to look this one up. It had a 4.77 MHz processor and a 10MB HDD ).

True, but I've yet to see a dualcore (or dual chip CPU) 486. I suspect this is an energy saver downthrottling his CPU when it is under a low load.

And hey at least the XT had one of those newfangled HD thingies. Not in my day!

^^ if the slowdown is a new development, then I'm going with overheating. I had a laptop do just the same thing. I tossed the laptop as it was 4 years old and it wasn't worth trying to find a replacement fan/heatsink.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Time to buy a new lap top. 7 year old lap top. It runs slow could be due to a number of different things.

buy a laptop fan to the heating problem.

I played Starcraft on a 75mhz computer.... why would you need any more than 500+???

I'm assuming the CPU is speedstepping using PowerNow! down to 575mhz because it is idle and trying to save power? I never realized it actually showed up that way though.

Fixed. Intel-specific terminology must be purged.

You're right. Almost all consumer CPUs these days do it. OP, it should not affect performance.

For reference: IT'S MEANT TO DO THAT.

i mending my girlfriend's...oh hell. It heats up and shuts down itself.

You're in the Quinn School as well? Small world

No idea what the problem is except that the laptops we get from that school are awful, mine never worked right in the first place. Didn't come with a wireless card...when I got the wireless card they took out my bluetooth...speakers didn't work...so yeah I'd just blame Quinn or Dell
