Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Final Fantasy 13 - 18.3GB optional Install for Xbox 360

So basically you don't have to install them and you certainly don't have to install them all at once.

The (no) problem being sold, proud owners of an Arcade 20GB as well as those without HDD can now enjoy Final Fantasy XIII.

And just so they get all the info, they'll have to swap the discs every 10+ hours.

Shows how much Square-Enix rushed the whole thing.

Huh?

Well to me optional downloadable content, filling entirely the hard disk of a console and lower quality visuals and sound shows that SE prefers profit from quality. One more disk on the xbox version should be fine. DVDs are not that expensive ...

Optional downloadable content? Are you complaining about there being eventual DLC on a game that's already 40-60 hours long? There's nothing lazy about that.

Installing the game on the 360 is entirely optional, so there's nothing lazy about how much space it would take up on a hard drive.

The lower quality visuals are a consequence of the game being designed for the 360 and being ported later on in development. There's nothing lazy about that either.

And you were just complaining about how much space the 360 install would take on a hard drive but now you're okay with an additional DVD that would make it so large you could never have all four discs installed on a 20GB system?

I'm sorry but your complaints don't make sense to me.

It's already impossible to install all disks on a 20Gb, you actually have access to like 13 of them.

Though I don't see the reason for this thread at all, it was already known the game would be around that size, and you can install any game on the xbox 360, which for the system is pretty much copying the contents to the hdd.

I just hope this game let's you save before disc swaps

Install Disc 1
Play and Beat Disc 1
Save, Uninstall Disc 1, Install Disc 2

and repeat

Star Ocean annoyed me because it forced me to listen to my Jet-box for half an hour trying to get to the next save point

Yes, that just makes it really annoying, it changes a 10 second disc change to a 10 minute disc change, but in the overall context of the length of XIII, I don't think it really matters

Optional downloadable content? Are you complaining about there being eventual DLC on a game that's already 40-60 hours long? There's nothing lazy about that. You didnt get his point, he was complaining against removing parts of a game and re-selling it as DLC instead of using a 4th disc.

Installing the game on the 360 is entirely optional, so there's nothing lazy about how much space it would take up on a hard drive.

The lower quality visuals are a consequence of the game being designed for the 360 and being ported later on in development. There's nothing lazy about that either. How do you know, it can be either of the reason. Bayonetta comes to mind.

Did you at least tried to understand hes point of view before trying to make him say something he did not say? He said, that they should have used a 4th disc instead of cutting content or lowering quality, this was obviously his main idea. Theres no problem there. Would you prefer paying an extra for DLC instead of having a 4th disc included for free? Also, why compressing that much if you can use another disc? Now we can discuss whether Square Enix decided to remove content because of disc or because they felt the content was unecessary (underline just to make sure you notice that im not affirming they cut content due to disc). Obviously we will never know for sure unless they bring us a DLC in 2-3 months.

About the install, he was obviously stating it as an addition on top of the other things. He was probably thinking that the 18 GB installation was program by SE. He doesnt have an Xbox, I guess he dont know that it is a feature program by MS to install full disc. Actually do someone know if SE did program an optional install that will not install the whole disc? Like a 2 GB install on each disc to reduce loading.

If he'd been at all clear about what he was trying to say, I wouldn't have had to have posted any of that.

The idea that they could have had a fourth disc of game content and they're going to sell it as DLC is pretty hilarious though. This project was a mess from start to finish and personally I'm surprised they ever got the game out the door.
