This is bad, reviewers should be taught to give unbiased scores not based on their tastes of gaming, if there is nothing wrong with the game i.e. bugs, glitches, freezing, then there is no real reason to mark down as this much, from what I have played on so far it is not a game for everyone but to me it is a 9/10 game, can't wait until I can afford to but it.

I'm not looking for a report on how bug free games are in reviews.  I personally hope reviewers rate games on their enjoyment and fun factor. Which is subjective, yes.  So what I find valuable is finding a reviwer that fits my taste, and then I know they will give a fairly accurate rating compared to what I would.

I was just giving examples of what reviewers should mark down games for if they find evidence of the above mentioned things in a game. There are many more thing you should take into account like story, gameplay (unbiased view), graphics, and replay value

I refuse to believe it deserves that score

The production values ALONE should make it deserve over a 5 at the minimum.

Good game or not, that's just a horrible thing to say.

Are you saying just because a game has a lot of money or effort poured into it should automatically be set to a certain level?

I'm not saying Heavy Rain deserves that score, I don't know, I haven't played it, but to say it should get a minimum 5 for the production values alone is just flat out stupid.

When people talked about 2012 (the film) being an awesome movie, it was ONLY about the production values of the CGI world destruction. The movie literally had almost nothing else.... so yeah, production values like those give them quite a few points.

Ah, another "praise/kill the review site depending on score" thread. This time it's pitchfork time.

Of all the many hypes we already saw this gen on all consoles, the one which emerged around Heavy Rain during the last few weeks feels like the strangest and most faked one to me. Quick time hype, so to speak.

emporers new clothes...?

I'm getting Heavy Rain and will play it through... but I think there is a strange elite attitude surrounding the game

It is almost as though it is impossible to criticise the game because Heavy Rain is somehow arty and high brow and that means it shouldnt be criticised because the developers have been brave.

It's ok to criticize it, but with fair and honest critic. I can take EDGE score, but I can't take this teletext crap. Have you read the review? If it's fair by you, why the hell would you want to get that game? Are you masochist?

Because I formulate my own opinions... ONE bad written review doesnt shape my opinion.   Why cant people just ignore it as an oddity... this constant bleating about the odd low review is just childish.

Childish, huh? Review scores are EXTREMELY important to developers! Dead Space got an 89 on metacritic, and that alone kept it from being"AAA." Don't you think that people have a reason to be angry or annoyed by something like that?

I can't take seriously anything that comes from a bunch of dudes that have a site called Teletext.

No, they don't.  I know Heavy Rain is advertised more as an interactive movie and all but it's still a game.  A game can still have incredibly high production values and be ass.

Three games that come up right off the top of my head are Lair, Too Human, and Lost: Via Domus.

Lair-- it was meant to show off the power of the PS3 and was touted as this super beautiful game with a fantastic score and cinematic events.  Everything production side was pretty top notch, too bad the game was terrible.

Too Human-- 10 year production cycle later with more hype than most games dreamed up and a pretty high production values and it was a giant embarassement.  Such an awful game.

Lost: Via Domus-- it may not have been a big budget game like the above two but it had pretty high production values, especially for a movie/TV show based game.  There was a fair amount of hype leading up to it (if you liked Lost) and it turned out to be one of the worst games of this generation.

So no, you don't get an automatic pass for production values.

Again, not even trying to imply that Heavy Rain might be bad or in any way compared to those above three mistakes, it has an 89 at the moment so I assume it's good, I'm just saying production values don't make the game.

Guys, the Teletext thing is outrageous, sure. But the real action for Heavy Rain is happening on the USER SCORES

As of now 5.2 on 118 votes. I defy anyone here to deny that's nothing else than pure childish XBOX fanboy behaviour. Gee, to think that's the kind of "gamers" you (xbots) socialize with on your paid Gold suscriptions, and the same people who gather around every forum and defend each other! fucking kids.
