Seems to me, from the wording, Ross was asked to give a date away deliberately. A bit of easy publicity - he's always endorsing stuff.
Whether or not its the real date is not the issue - he's got people talking about it.
I suspected Natal to launch in October, or November anyway, makes sense.

Do you have any real play test clips of natal with people playing it at a closer distance? I dont, nor many has all that free room space to stand that far back from a TV. Thats my only concern with Natal is if you need to stand back a certain distance for it to work properly.

The closer you are to a camera, the more accurate it will be.
As far as distances go:
"A player standing anywhere between 0.8 and 4 metres from Natal is illuminated with infrared light."
