Forums - Gaming Discussion - Another thing Valve hates. S****y motion controlled party games.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=235859

Valve has slammed "sh*tty" motion control party-games - and, despite expressing interest in Project Natal, has pledged never to place a 'tiresome' mini-game for the device in Left 4 Dead.

Speaking exclusively to CVG ahead of the release of Left 4 Dead 2 DLC The Passing, Valve writer Chet Faliszek said that the studio believes Project Natal is "really cool" - but begged other developers not to waste the opportunity it presents.

"Hopefully we've gotten past the point of mini-games," he said. "I'm sick of that [makes arm movement]. That's not a game for me anymore. Let's get some real interaction going.

"We have these technologies now that let us interact in different, really exciting ways. It's developers' jobs to do something with it. Impress me. Don't just make sh*tty games I wouldn't want to play if I had to use a joystick."

When asked if Valve was looking to put Natal compatibility in any of its future Left 4 Dead games, Faliszek added:

"We'll see. You won't have to make the arm movement of sawing off a zombie's head in some tiresome mini-game. I can promise you that."

Check back on CVG later this week for our full interview with Faliszek.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

don't we all hate them?

- Wasteland - The Mission.

thank god... I was expecting Left 4 Dead 4 to be a launch title for Arc/Natal. I think this killed those rumors.

No we don't all hate them. Though too be honest i'm REALLY DAMND sick of that mini game. Of click button and things die. Common i've played this MINI game for soOoooooo many years. Can't Valve do anything different?

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Some of the Mini games were fun, but they have been really over done this gen.

I agree, developers have got to take advantage of the unique game ideas Natal offers, rather than take the typical mini game approach.

I think that Heavy Rain, surprisingly, will be the flagship of motion controls and how they can be utilized to their maximum effect.

If you click play on the clip I posted (it'll automatically start where I want it to), you'll see how fucking powerful motion control can be. Without motion control, Heavy Rain will probably be very very empty. I mean, just imagine how engrossed you are into that scene. Rapidly pressing the button to imitate the shaking of the hand and the beating of your heart. Squeezing R1 and L1 like you would with the axe, and then finally and best of all, bringing it down WITH the character via the Sixaxis.

That's is infinetly more satisfying that simply pressing Choice A or B.

I agree with this.

Focus on making the game fun as your top priority.  It doesn't matter how novel the controls are if the game isn't fun to play in the first place.

Lol damn my fanboy goggles.

I thought the title reads: Valve hates Sony motion controlled party games.
