Forums - Microsoft - IGN: Deadly Premonition Review (x.x)

I still doubt that its worst then Vampire Rain that game is a complete disaster.

I doubt that it is worse than VR. I haven't played VR to know, but I own other uber-trash games like Two Worlds, and Deadly Premonition is FAR better than that.

Here is my little writeup from about 3hrs of gameplay:

  • Resident Evil 4/Dead Rising style controls...Love it or hate it. L-stick moves your character, while R-stick allows you to pan around to view areas. If you want to fire, you hold R-trigger to bring up your weapon (ala dead rising), with L-stick aiming, and A to fire. Certainly clunky compared to a Gears of War-style game, but comparatively, it is not much different than Resident Evil 5.
  • Graphics are mediocre, depending on what you want out of the game. I haven't seen many graphical errors (pop-in, glitches in the textures, frame rate drops), but the graphics are early 360 era. Probably on par with most Wii titles.
  • Game is incredibly bizzare. I mean that in a good way. Its not that it doesn't make sense, its just really bizzare. There is a Silent Hill-esque alternate world going on, that is populated with monsters, all the while a normal world exists. The hero talks to himself (I get the impression the game is shattering the 4th wall and alludes to the player)
  • Lots of cheezy, yet enjoyable, dialogue. The game feels like its straight out of the 80's with some of the cliches'. When driving, the playable character makes references to all kinds of 80s movies. Tremors FTW!
  • Game world is friggin huge! Larger than Grand Theft Auto IV! Really a shocker. Its not as populated as one would hope, but it takes awhile to drive across, and there are tons of little secrets lying around.
  • Driving is clunky, as the mechanics aren't realilisitc. It is not that it is 'hard' to drive, just that your turn radius sucks horribad.
  • Music is hilarious. You'll be somewhere creepy, and it'll start playing an upbeat melody.
  • The game has a lot of interesting considerations: You must eat and sleep to survive. You have to go to places by certain times of the day to ensure you progress. Unlike other games, time is 1:1. So if you have 5 hours to get somewhere...You litterally have 5 hours to get there!

And so on. Every survival horror fan should get this. At $20, you either will love it, or at least enjoy it enough to justify the price.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Around the Network

I shall try it for myself. Though not now since I'm in the middle of a few games and FF13 is coming out in 2 weeks.

At least it's not a risky bet. Just $20.

I'm mainly interested in this game because I like Marvelous and Ignition and this game sort of has a Suda51 type of feel to it. I like how Marvelous steps outside the typical anime game realm and takes on something different from time to time (FSR, No More Heroes, now this. Now I didn't like FSR's gameplay but I have to admit that it was an "interesting" experience.) They've done a lot to support the Wii and DS and now they are on the 360. I hope this Marvelous/Ignition (apparently Ignition does a better job than Xseed from what I've heard) tag-team localizes No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise (If not, Xseed, Aksys, or whomever else would be fine for localization).

I found it today at eb games store... Will try it soon.

@mrstickball

never get vampire rain its the worst title made.

i wanna play DP but i dont think its gonna get uk release, i condemn this score after watching gameplay, ign have just hammered the title. its a budget release, how the hell is it worth 2.0.

Its coming to Europe, from my understanding. And yeah, for 11.99 pounds, it would be very difficult to feel jipped by the game if you don't like it.

My fiancee is addicted to the game. She is 5 hours in, and not past the first of 4 episodes. The game world is FREAKING HUGE. Traveling by car, it'd take ~10-15 minutes to traverse and probably an hour on foot.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Okay, I HAVE to play this game.

And boy, am I gonna get SHITFACED while doing so.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

The game looks just as shitty on the PS3 (Asian release only), not sure why the 360 gets singled out for this debacle.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

I'd give it a 7/10 or a 8/10.

No idea what IGN is smoking. Its a good game. Is it perfect? No, by no means. Its $20 brand new. Do you know what other games debut at $20? Ones worse than this.

The game is insanely creepy. It would have made for a pretty good PS2 game.

Every survival horror fan needs to buy it. For $20, your not going to lose much if you dislike it, but chances are, your going to like it. They pack an insane amount of content into the game for the price.

The premise looks interesting, and for a budget Japanese made 360 game, its quite fully featured. TBH, i would buy it when its cheaper if it was at least semi-descent in the gameplay department.
