Forums - Gaming Discussion - Kotick: EA a good option “if you want to sell out”

Activision is just as bad if not worse. We'd be at Mass Effect 7 right now if Activision had Bioware.

Why does this industry have so many of these arrogant idiots. I wouldn't be suprised if we see Activision struggling next gen due to a lack of new IP and ideas.

Doubtful; people like and want sequels.  There's sales data that proves this.  EA will tell you that regardless of quality, people aren't too interested in new IP and ideas... or at least aren't interested enough to actually spend money on them.

But there comes a time (as EA found towards the end of last gen beginning of this gen) that you find you're flogging a dead horse. Everyone is bored of what you're producing even though it might have been brilliant before (Tomb Raider, Medal of Honor, Guitar Hero etc.). Unless of course you have something more original within a series e.g. CoD4 going into modern day. If you look at Activision, they're main product is Call of Duty which comes out every year. Unless they introduce something new or re-invigor an existing IP then they're going to struggle next generation.

EA now have a seperate problem, and that's overestimating the success of their new IPs and investing a lot of money assuming they're going to sell loads in the first month. Looking at Mirror's Edge and Dead Space, they both sold well and have actually had decent legs, but the expectation was (unrealistically imo) much higher.

someone needs to permnanently attached a L to his forehead.

Oh, Bobby...

This is an epic win!

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

I like EA. Why the hate? EA is'nt the only company to milk there franchises.
