Do you think pirates really do buy some of the games they get for free?

Yes, there are a lot of honest pirates 28 33.73%

Yes, the lack of game demos is the problem 6 7.23%

Yes, but they're extreme... 16 19.28%

No, it's just an excuse to justify theft 7 8.43%

No, I've never seen one do that in real life 3 3.61%

No, they're just full of shit 23 27.71%

Total:83

The ones who really feel the need to justify their habitual pirating of games (done for "moral" reasons like protesting DRM or lack of X feature) probably do every once in a while when the game is available for a promotional price (temporarily slashed) or at inventory clearing sales.

I would guess that most of these people never pay full price for new releases if they even bother to pay anything at all for any game they don't end up playing for the better part of a year or much longer.

Been playing Starcraft for the last ten years? "Oh yeah; I suppose I should pay $10 for a legitmate copy. I support the development of top quality games I like to play!"

I exaggerate, but not by that much.

I know for a fact that a lot of people do.

Personally, I can't speak for gaming, because I don't pirate games, but I do pirate a lot of TV Shows and movies ... And when I see something I like, I always buy it on DVD. I own Seinfeld, How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, Psych, House M.D., Heroes (first two seasons only), Lost, Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and probably a few more I'm forgetting on DVD - and I started off pirating every single one of them.

As for movies, I'm not even going to go there, because I've bought well over 50 that I started off downloading...

While I am with you on the movies front, comparing movies to games isn't really fair, unless you are getting a flawless copy with all the extra's that a DVD/Blu-ray has :)

I rarely use the extras so I didn't even think of that.

My point about quality still stands, the majority of torrents out there (unless you get a screener) are terrible.  Whereas a pirated game is going to look just as good as one you paid $60 for

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos

Actually, to clarify. I said I don't pirate games, but I do if it's my last option. For example, I wanted to buy Shadow of the Colossus a while back, but not a single store I checked had it in stock and I couldn't find it anywhere I looked, so I downloaded it. That's the only situation where I will pirate a game.

I've actually bought some games more than once, the few I can think of off the top of my head are DA:O and Oblivion.

I have no problem with DVDrip quality. Guess it's just me.

...  ok ...

Isn't it Dr. Phil who said something like when people use the word "but" it means forget about everything I said before this, now I am going to tell you what I really think?  Looks like he was right :)

Just bustin' your chops man :)

Ypur point doesnt stand at all the quality on torrents varies but if you want an exact copy as retail and all the extras they are there if you want them, You have the choice between a smaller file in divx or avi or anexact copy of a retail dvd.

nope they just say that to justify what they do, and theres no way to prove otherwise to me...why would you pirate the game if you could just buy it in the first place, espesially a game like MW2, you know its good, why not just buy it? ill tell you why, because pirates love thier treasure =p

im the only person i know who bought spore, everyone else just downloaded it. i really believe that for most pirates, they do not buy games after they have downloaded them. they pirate the game and just keep with that
