Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ubisoft: Gamer's games can succeed on Wii, RS3 coming based on RS2 interest

I got really excited about this thread when I read part of the title: "Ubisoft: Gamer's games can succeed on Wii, RS3 coming...". Then I read the part about RS2 and realized they were talking about Red Steel and not Rainbow Six. :(

Red Steel 2 looks like a solid game that makes good use of the Wii's capabilities (both from a technical standpoint as well as the input methods). I just don't think it will fare particularly well as most of the major FPS fanatics tend to invest in their PS3's, 360's and PC's and RS2 is coming out during a pretty heavy FPS time with MW2 released just months ago and BFBC2 on its way.

I would love to see this game succeed and it's the first game that I'm even considering to get for my Wii since Zelda:TP but I just don't see it being a breakout success. I think it will be similar to Mad World where it's a great game with respectable sales but nothing outstanding when compared to sales of more family and lifestyle oriented games on the Wii.

Mad World is a good game????   It was boring as hell. Me and a friend played it at most 2hours of the rental and took it back the same night

Concerning Read Steel 2. I hope it does well. I myself did not like the first much, but the second one does have potential to change my mind. So I am on the rent it side. If I enjoy it I wil purchase it.

All they need to do is make sure someone knows about the game (advertising) and it should at leasdt sell. How does Nintendo get all of those sales from their 1st party games? Maybe Ubisoft should do what Nintendo does in terms of marketing.

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

advertise then

Sounds like they are setting RS2 up to be a "test" game.

That's bullshit. He was asked if he thinks "gamer's games" can sell on Wii, and all he said was that a game should sell fine if it's good and it offers gamers something they want. That's hardly the equivalent of that EA guys comment were they were 'testing' to see if a core audience was on Wii at all, and that if they failed it wasn't (and couldn't be the fault of the game).

These guys have completely the right attitude, and this game is going to sell, mark my words.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Attitude really does help to sell games. Figuring out what the consumer wants, needs, etc should always be the one of the first steps.
Blaming them for a failed  game because it does not sell....... is lol at best. It also makes me look at who made a game I may want to play. Just like with Sony it might be the reason I choose not to.

Put in some multiplayer if you want your game to sell. Just take a quick glance at the best selling Wii games: all multiplayer.

I agree, though I can appreciate the reasons they didn't. And while multiplayer is a great way to sell games, the multiplayer has to be quite good too, and putting multiplayer into the first game of this type would mean a reduced focus on singleplayer and a lack of focus on multi-player. I'm sure they can still sell a single player game on it's merits, Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy managed it quite fine.

Well, they've reduced their expectations to 500k, which i think should be pretty easy. As long as they advertise the fact that "this is the motion + sword game you've been waiting for!" they should net at least 500k rather easily. 1 million will be the bigger hurdle here.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Many of the trailers and videos have been focussed on the player, and the reflection of that on screen, so I don't doubt they will. I expect their ads will be very like the trailer with the guy in the factory playing Red Steel 2.
