not sure what item you're referring to, the only items that do anything are all passive, that's not really the same thing. 

It's still a good game in its own way, but it just feels like dota-lite, it is kinda dumbed down to give everyone a chance.  Everything from the start when you can't see what heroes the enemy team is choosing.

There are active items, as vlad said not many. Yes, summoner spells are chosen beforehand - thats why it is superior. Do not see how you can call it dota lite when you also cannot se enemy picks... simply places more emphasis on planning a good character and team, knowing that you dont know what your opponents are coming in with.

  Could easily make an arguement that dota is the dumbed down version, since there is no pre game planning. Its all about memorizing items and counters and etc. That is still important in LoL, but with the added aspect that there is at least a little you dont know about your opponents going in, and you also wont know what you will face beforehand.

Also, the CC is less overpowering in LoL, LoL has alot more thought put into judging relative capabilities as opposed to just knowing that at x level with x items and x power queuing you can win the fight. CC is still important in LoL, but in dota its everything. Largely because there are so many damn CC items. Less CC also means you need to make wiser use of what you have to properly control the game.

I like the Replays in HoN. The awards and matchmaking seems like a nice idea aswell. And S2 Gaming is doing great things with HoN. What i dont like is the attitude of the community.. its horrible tbh. Its like ten times worse than XBOX Live kids in MW2.
