Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does animation not count as graphics?

You make a good point. I've seen screenshots of some games that looked amazing sitting still. Then, when I got them, the animation was a real turn-off.

I think Heavy Rain is still one of the best looking games, ever, though. I didn't see much wrong with the animation, at all. I just hate the "Press R to walk" controls.

Its because you are meant to be soaking in the atmosphere, so you can really run as you are wrestling with the controls

In that case, they succeeded!!  I really did feel like an old, overweight, balding, asthmatic when I played the demo!!

See! The immersion is wonderful isn't it?

The animation is Heavy Rain is some of the best I've seen...

If it's awkward at times then that detracts from visuals but it doesn't make the character models, lighting, environments and effects any less phenomenal.

I guess it varies depending how you look at it. While technically graphics means resolution, etc. - i.e. the pure image represented on the screen - I do also consider animation and physics as part of the package.

From the demo I thought the animation was okay but variable. As the detective the animation seemed stiff when merely walking, but great once I was gasping for breath or fighting. The FBI agent's animation felt better when just walking as well as good when climbing, etc.

Anyway, I do think animation counts as well as it can be crucial to how good the visual image comes across. As noted by others the animation in ICO and SOTC remains fantastic even now, with ICO clearly moving like a young, impetuous boy, which not only looks great but really helps sell his character, while Yorda (a young girl) is animated very well as a shy, nervous young woman uncertain of herself in movement.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Indeed animation is included in graphics. All other physics too.

yeah, animation is a part of graphics.
