Just sunk about 3 hours in to the marine campaign and 1 hour in to the predator campaign and I can give this game thumbs up already. The control mechanics are good, nothing is broken about the gameplay and the actual gunplay is quite solid. I had lots of fun playing the 4 hours I played and I haven't even started the MP which is supposed to be the best part.

You will like this game if:

You like games like Doom 3, FEAR, Quake 4...*hint corridor shooter

You like very challenging enemies and always being on your toes. I am playing on normal and running in to all sorts of trouble...

You have the patience to learn some new control layouts (for predator and alien)

You are the fan of the franchises involved

You won't like it if:

You are a graphics whore. Game looks average... 5/10. Sounds great though.

You want to chill out and explore...sandbox elements. There is none. Its a push start, aim, fire, turn off console type of game

You want to play with your friends. Game is missing campaign coop, local coop for mp (xbl/PSN coop only), split screen.

If you read these points and think this may be a game for you, or you just want to play as a bad ass predator, don't hesitate to rent it or pick it up. Revewers seem to be hammering the game but we all know that the review system is faulty. Metacritic does not consider your gaming taste when giving grades to games. I enjoy this game much more than Bioshock 2 last week for example...personal taste.

You know, I was reading through your entire post, and I was happy that you weren't going to blame the game's poor reviews on reviewers themselves. But it seems people are truly spoiled and always disappoint. Sigh.

Metacritic disagrees with you. 70% for 360 version. 72% for PS3 version. ouch!!!

Game reviewers play the bad games and give them bad scores so us gamers do not have to play them. Maybe wait for the the game to be in the bargain bin or just a rental.

I am not sure I understand... Who dissapoints? Did I dissapoint by blaming the reviewers?

I am not saying reviewers are to blame here...just that people need to look at them as a guideline but still go with their instincts when it comes to gameplay that they may personally like. To me fighting aliens, predators and playing as them sounded very appealing so I picked it up. If that sounds like a fun concept, you will have fun with the game. Nothing about the gameplay is broken.

Nah you're wrong...once you have actual taste in games you will understand. Besides, I'm not here to convince metacritic % whores to buy it. Just saying that if its a cool concept to you, you will enjoy the game...

Here is a question for you...If you like corridor shooters and don't like RPGs, is FFXIII a better game for you than AVP?

AVP is all action and about 12-15 hours of sp campaign if you don't want to do multiplayer. So you could blow right through it in a weekend rental...

i tried the demo and i was surprised by the game
i actually enjoyed it A LOT
so i might get this

yeah, MP is really good. No need to worry there as you will have fun with it...

Single player is what most reviewers seem to be complaining about but from what I've seen, its quite solid as well...if you like corridor shooters and don't mind dated graphics that is.
