I think the percentage of Wii owners in the UK who have never put Wii Sports into the machine would be pretty close zero.

I've never seen those charts Nordlead posted before. Very interesting stuff.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

but you don't know that, you are just guessing. Obviously something is off as you are putting Z&W numbers above capcom statements.
besides, as I stated people are buying the system for games besides Wii Sports. As a simple example (granted it is a sample of one) I used to bring my Wii over my parents house all the time, until finally my brother got one. He never put Wii Sports in the system, as we had already played the game to death of the course of a year. Instead he put in Wii Play, Strikers, and other games. It isn't beyond the realm of possibility that the "core" gamers who are buying the system today aren't even bothering with Wii sports as they'd rather play MKWii, NSMBWii, WSR and many other titles.
I'm not saying that no one puts it in, but it is possible that your 10% of Wii owners are submitting data is wrong. Heck, now I might have to find Nintendo's online attach rate numbers if I can be bothered to dig through Nintendo press conferences.

I estimate the percentage of Nintendo Channel users who haven't put Wii Sports in is about 1%
You also have to take into account that some of the data on the Nintendo Channel may be before they put Wii Sports in as well. The data is only up to date as of the last time the user entered the channel (possibly of the day before they last entered the channel) so someone might have bought a Wii in November with 2-3 other games... played them, then checked out the Nintendo channel, then gone on to play Wii Sports and other games but never re-visited the Nintendo Channel.
The assumtions on game sales though are way off.... the multiplier for Wii Sports (and thus the console) might be about 10.... but the multiplier for other games can vary to as low as 2 or 3 or up to 15-20.
@nordlead
I think the assertion that a significant number of Wii owners in the UK have never bothered to play a game that comes packed with every machine is more of a guess than suggesting that such a number is insignificant. Of course many people buy a Wii to play games other than Wii Sports (it would be expensive to buy it just for that) - but that doesn't mean that those people never play the game.

Unfortunately you just don't have the data to back your hypothesis up. You think that near 100% of users would play Wii Sports, but what's it based on? The fact that it comes with it so they *must* all try it out? Maybe that holds true, but in order for these to be more credible we have to actually confirm that to be the case. Reality sometimes surprises people, it could be as low as 75% for all we know.

We can't always have all the data to hand but it's pretty obvious that the number of people who check the Nintendo channel, but haven't played Wii Sports is going to be minimal.

So we had this wacky idea that we would lend each other games, so everyone could play more different games. In fact, that's still practiced today. What this means is that someone who has played a game is not necessarily an owner of said game. There's no way to know how many users actually bought the game and certain games simply don't seem to be worth the money, so only one person bought it, but several played it without ever owning it. |
Some of my Wii Play time, as well as the entire (30 minutes) of Wii Sports Resort time is from other peoples games.
