Man, people need to take their mouths off Nintendo's dick for a second. Gaming has been mainstream long before the Wii came out.

Sorry i couldn't hear you my mouth was full.
It's one of the other reasons I think Microsoft hurts the market more than helping. ESP with this generation of gaming, Nintendo and Sony have always catered to different audiences as far as gamers were concerned. This gen is no different. Nintendo is going for a more casual orientation, and sony is pushing for epic "blockbuster" type games, the difference between the two was apples and oranges. But with MS in the race trying to push Sony out of the picture you'll have two major players attempting to "one up" the competion and thus dumping major funds into dev costs. In my opinion if Microsoft had stuck to software onry and pushed all of it's titles on either PC or PS3, the market would still be two polar opposites and management of funds would be way different.
I guess in short I don't consider Nintendo to be the "saviour" of gaming, I more or less just think that Microsoft is hurting the industry. Again I don't really have proof to back any of these claims but thats my opinion lol.
*Sidenote* I think Sony and Nintendo should just merge so we have outstanding hardware and games >_> then the new fusion could build mechs or something....

Mainsteam on the internet maybe, but definitely not in the real world, and definitely not anywhere near the level it is at now.

How do you figure? Gaming has been a major market in one demographic for a long time and a minor market with combined leftovers of other demographics. Gaming is only mainstream in the sense that the mainstream is aware of it. Even with the Wii I don't know if I would call gaming mainstream. I think you might be projecting your own personal viewpoint as the defacto standard for everyone.
As for your blunt comment, here is one back at you:
The only reason someone might need to "get their mouth of Nintendo's dick" is because of how much time it has spent in MS & Sony's ass.
cAPSLOCK is right. While doing some banking about a month ago I over heard two women in their late 40s talking about playing the Wii. Anecdotal as it may be I've never heard any women at that age talking about a game system other than to say 'little jimmy wants a super sega station for christmas' before.

There may have been games for all demographics(doubtful, but for the sake of argument), but controls were a barrier to entry, most would look at a controller and become intimidated, but with Wii that is not an issue, even elderly folks who never played games are having fun |
Why exactly do you want videogames to go mainstream? That would be a horrible, horrible thing imo. Everything that goes mainstream tends to turn into crap. Why do you want dumbed down games for the masses?
If that were to happen, then I would give up consoles and just stick to the PC.
It's bad enough that the movie&music industries produces mostly crap (and you have to really search for quality art), now we want to ruin videogames too?
Let developers create the games they actually want to... not the ones that sell to the masses just so the producers can make some coin (EA).
Can you imagin how bad videogames would be if we had 30 Michael Bay types for every 1 Martin Scorcese?
Let the videogame industry concentrate on pleasing it's core customer and let the industry grow slowly. Why must we be recognized by the masses at all?
