Forums - PC Discussion - PC Newbie needs help buiding his first rig? parts listed

like I said I havn't a problem with one of the drives but I know people that have had multiple WD drive fail soon after installed them. But they probably have improved recently I doubt a high end drive would have any problems Just ignore me lol.

i still need to pick out a case though

You still have triple-channel RAM, which that mobo won't support. Switch them out for this 4GB set, since that's all you need for gaming (modern PC games are not very RAM-intensive).

And yes, you do still need a case. Honestly, if you can't decide, the Centurion 5 is my standard recommendation and it should be all you need unless you have special needs.

'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

HDDs have moving parts that can easily bend or break; therefore all of them have higher failure rates than a piece of solid-state electronics (like, say, your CPU). Don't listen to anecdotal evidence concerning hardware failure rates or else you'll find yourself in a situation where every HDD manufacturer is suddenly unreliable. :P

yea I know that all HDD have issues with physical parts thats why it's always a good idea to regularly backup. But I have heard of someone getting a WD drive have it fail in a couple of weeks then have the replacement drive die a month after that etc.

You should be advised that most cases with windows will be laden with LEDs that will make whatever room you have it in glow bright blue. If that doesn't bother you, however, then I'd recommend the tried-and-true Antec Nine Hundred.

It sounds like your friend may have mounted his/her drive(s) improperly. A spinning HDD needs to be secured tightly or the parts will start to bend and screw up. Either that or he/she was buying Caviar Greens.

they were resonably experianced with PC hardware and when they got a different brand after the issues they didn't have a problem for years.
