Forums - General Discussion - Scientists create highest recorded temperature, 7.2 trillion degrees *ouch*

Holy crap, that's pretty freaking incredible

Doesn't this make nuclear fusion possible?

Sadly no.

Hearing stuff like this doesn't really excite me, it scares me. Sometimes I worry that science is developing faster than we're ready for it, and that we're just little kids playing with a lighter and some gasoline.

Still cool though.

Currently playing: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, NBA2k11, Metal Gear Solid, Picross 3d

That would have to be quite the tiny space for it to reach that temperture for it to not screw up everything.

I do think it's a good step towards creating the right temperature for nuclear fusion. But then again, I know nothing of these subjects.

I'm a little lost here, highwaystar. Temperature is mean molecular kinetic energy, or energy of motion of atoms/molecules in matter. How can an individual atom have temperature?
@Miguel_Zorro, from what I know fusion requires pressure, not heat.
