Forums - Nintendo Discussion - ONM's totally unofficial Zelda timeline

Since Nintendo does not recognize any real timeline, this debate is very Shakepearean -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I still don't believe you can put all the games in a timeline. I think some of the games are just different versions of the same legend. It's an evolving mythology. Or something like that.

You guys all know that the whole thing starts with Faces of evil, when hyrule went bankrupt and wanted to make a cheap animated game and Link had a voice, that is until he saw the reviews on the internet he became mute forever. and wanted to kill ganon out of anger.

the timeline only works if you go through the orde rin which they were developed.

I believe there are 3 strings, not 2

1st one

Ocarina of time
Lttp
LA
Zelda
AoL

Ocarina of time messes everything up, not only does it create a split timeline but it pretty much ignores all the games before it

2nd One

OoT
WW
PH
ST

this one is set in stone

2nd one

OoT
MM
TP

These strings are all pretty much confimred. where the rest fit in are interesting.

MC is said to be the first one, which is kinda right becasue apparently 'thats where link gets his hat' although this doesnt work either because the brother of the original zelda wheres a hat like that. most likely these dont fit anywhere.

OoS and OoA also seem like games to me that were made with zelda lore but not with any reference to a time line. They fit in after AoL but this could just be by accident.

In conclusion, Aonuma likes to fit his games together most of the time, the others dont really care

FA and FSA seem to be sequels to MC, yet they cannot be before OoT since i believe Ganon cant exist before then, most likely they just dont care about time line

There is a great problem in placing Four Swords, given that they incorporate pre-OoT elements, like Vaati, and post OoT elements, like Ganon.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

continuity is so overrated. I have said it before and I will say it again. Zelda is only a retelling of the monomyth, the desirable story of the underdog.

I honestly have no problems with that, nintendo has confirmed however that the games in the zelda series with direct sequels have their own little lore. Oot and majoras mask have a continuity. As well as twighlight princess might have a continuity with the upcoming zelda wii.

wait there is a story in zelda? =)

I just don't get why they always talk of 2 separate timelines... for me the cartoon zeldas were way in the future... (as in the world changed and is covered in water but part of hyrule remains there underwater because of a spell)... but I might have missed some parts of the story I guess.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

i could give a rats ass about the Zelda time-line seems rather unimportant to the series if you ask me..plus i honestly don't think there is an actual time-line in the games

this was confimred by Aonuma and one of the reasons why the timeline is fucked.

end of OoT, zelda sends link back to the past (to lay te shitty games that suck ass/AVN referenec) whih splits the timeline

I agree with this.
