It stands for "Life-to-Date" - past tense.  It means sales so far.  If you're predicting total sales of a game in the future, you'd say "lifetime" sales.

This is America only, and it looks like God of War 3 is tracking above the first two games first week sales wise, according to the Pre-orders. God of War 3 should have the highest first week in the series.
