I just can't comprehend why people still buy PS2's. I mean its over 9 years old. Sure it has an amazing library of games but its so outdated. And with the Wii and 360 only being $200 and the PS3 just $300 price can't be why people buy PS2's over current gen consoles.

Because people not rich.  Everyone can't buy the newer consoles and spend $60 for every game.  Some people save they money for more important things like bills and food.  The PS2 has a huge library of great games so why not buy one.  There are still hundreds of PS2 games I want to play.

you don't have to buy every game. I don't. I"m not rich, but I was able to afford a ps3. It's all about being selective.

I need a a extra one for backup. My PS2 isn't going to work forever, and who knows if Sony will ever put BC back into the PS3.

It's just that simple.

I do not get it why they keep doing this with the PS2. And why are they still selling the PS2 for 99 rather than 79 or something? One last official price cut could help for a last boost.

Alot of people just like to get in towards the end of each generation so the consoles and especially the games are extremely cheap.

I was hoping for a $50 PSOne type sale as well. Cheapest I saw was $80 at a Radioshack clearance and I passed on it. I'll keep looking.

exactly. This is what i did..  I got a PS1 in 1999 and then a PS2 in 2008..    Cheap console, tonnes of games 2nd hand for just a handful of pounds/euros/dollars.     Probably will get PS3 in 2014 !

a backward compatbile PS3 makes the most sense, if they are limiting supply of both to make room for a new SKU

Seriously does anybody really care about that at this point.

Just because you're "not rich" doesn't mean that you are poor. There are plenty of families who can only afford a PS2, because they can get the system and a load of games for far less than even a Wii. I could go into my local GameStop and buy a PS2 and 10-15 games and leave with €20 more than if I'd just bought a Wii. Not everyone can afford a next-generation console, so a lot of people are willing to purchase the PS2 because of its library.

I suspect that the vast majority of PS3 owners who don't have a BC PS3 care about it quite a lot.
