Forums - Gaming Discussion - Pather - "Subscription fee, F2P & microtransaction is going to happen"

Im fine with the idea of MT in game. Just have the content available to all (but easier to get, get it earlier in the game, etc) for the MT items. That way if people want to save time, they can spend the money.

WKC does a good job of this. You can buy items for your Georama if you want, but you do not have too. (It just opens up different things earlier/makes it easier to buy certain items, etc)

subscription - biggest scam ever...
microtransactions - even bigger because the content is alreayd in a game u paid for but u still have to pay to use it..

f2p ftw!

Personally, I don't think subscriptions are a scam, at $15 a month typically that is pretty cheap.

Consider this:
Game costs $60
FPS - Around 15 hours playtime = $4 per hour of play
RPG - Say 60 hours - $1 per hour of playtime

So basically, if you play 15 hours of say (WoW) a month, you are getting your money worth.  And when I played WoW I did 15 hours easy in a week, so I was paying about $0.25 an hour :)

Wanna talk scams?  Try going to an Arcade and popping in $1-$2 for 5 min of playtime :P

Exactly. The subscriptions we have today are dirt cheap, if we consider the value they get for it.

People actually save money by paying $15 per month on WOW since they tend to spend so much less on social life, going to parties, going to the movies etc, and they also spend less on buying other games.

Actually those 10 million WOW subscribers are locked by Blizzard to only spend $180 per year on games, the equivalent of only 3 full-price console games.

No thanks. The former Naughty Dog guy kept talking about this system of paying and I found myself cringing.

In the video they cut to footage of Battlefield Heroes which I would reference as why I don't want this model to grow. Especially after the December update which made it so that VP (in-game currency you earn playing the game) was even more useless for renting items and weapons compared to if somebody used BF (points you buy with real money).

Wasn't it something like, if you are going to play for free you have to play at least 4 hours a day to just keep your current level of gear and upgrades?

Well i guess i will have to find some other hobby like real life call of duty or something.

I don't know the exact amounts, but if I recall the big thing they did was increased the VP cost of renting something and reduced the time something can be rented. I think some items might have become BF only too.

I've only played it for a short time in the summer and haven't touched it since.
