Forums - Sony Discussion - Why Are Sony Letting Microsoft Bully Them Out Of Familiar Franchises?

fastyxx said:
We forget sometimes that this is a business - not a sport. MS outcoached Sony at the start of the generation - remember how smug Sony was when it unveiled the PS3. Things will shift back Sony's way in time. These things are cyclical. Games that were only on Xbox are coming to PS3 eventually too.

There's too much money available - and dev costs are too high - for anybody not 1st or 2nd party to go exclusive for too long. And the number of units being sold on these big franchises will put the price tag for buying exclusives in the major franchises WAY too high for it to make sense.

A minor, temporary blip on the radar in the grand scheme of things.

This is exactly how I see it.

On topic: didn't Sony pay for the Batman exclusive DLC?

What exclusive DLC isn't paid for?

No, actually it doesn't say that.

If Microsoft pays for DLC...

EDIT: Besides look at the title. Are?

Money.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

It's not that Sony won't, it's that Sony can't. The entertainment division had been bleeding money for the first few years of the PS3's life, and they lost billions. The actual figure I can't remember but they lost all of the money they made on the PS1 and PS2 combined just on the PS3's first few years of life. Try justifying getting into a bidding war with microsoft over timed exclusivity to your shareholders when your division is already hemorrhaging money like a man who just had his jugular sliced. It would not go over well. They are finally getting back into a decent position with the PS3 financially, but if they want to ever make some kind of money back, they can't compete for things in the way Microsoft is motivated to.

Sony fanboys like to say that sony is incredibly honorable for not "buying" exlusives like that evil slimey despicable "Micro$oft" but you can bet your sweet bippy that if sony had the capital to do so, they would be fighting microsoft tooth and nail and throwing wads of cash at everyone with pockets. There is no "honor" is multibillion dollar corporations, there is only results for your shareholders.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

The $50million Microsoft paid for that GTA DLC is probably in a similar ball-park to what would be spent on a mid-large PSN release (perhaps less)

Massive fail.

"I know Sony won’t pay for exclusives and I think that’s admirable."  cough*GTA3 on PS2*cough

So it's "admirable" that they don't do it now?

ftr: they still do it....
