Over popular?
Are you kidding?!
We are talking about Final Fantasy XIII...... The game that's cool to hate. Seraphic! The injustice.

Oh, sugar coat it all you want, thats quite a bad thing to some. |
While I see where you're coming from....don't 99% of RPG's start off by only letting you control a few characters? At the very least EVERY Final Fantasy game I can think of has done that.

No, for example, SO4, ... sure you start off with a select group of characters, however your not forced to use them if you have more characters you'd like to use instead.
The only times it was done in SO4's case is when Edge has to fight one-on-one with Faize and Arumat, other then that your free to use whoever you want.
From what i understand, if you had Snow and lighting as an example, and i wanted to use Snow, but the game forced lightning on me instead... thats the part thats irritating, i've not once played an' RPG of any kind that tried pulling a stunt like that before.
Well, the problem seems to be that some facts about the game get singled out and criticized out of context. You just got to see the whole picture and how it comes together.
Looking forward to: FF Versus XIII / LBP2 / The Last Guardian / Yakuza 4 / ICO Collection

I think I'm finally starting to get what you're saying. So you're issue is not with a fixed party...it's more with who you control within the party?

Exactly, Finally someone around here gets it... that would be silly since nearly every RPG game, be it WRPG, MMO or JRPG, you always start off with a select few, thats fine, its awesome finding new characters or making new online buds.
But... in FFXIII's case, the only characters i'd use through-out the whole game would have been Snow, Sazh an' Vanille. thats not gonna be though until late in the game, which messes with my good nature.
I'll still play the game, but i wont own it, if gameplay is fun an' fast paced like SO4 or IU an' the like thats all that matters in the end, even if i dislike most of the playable characters.
Some people have been saying that the fixed party and leader is actually beneficial. Since the games difficulty gets ramped to the high heavens at the end of the game. It will be easier for you since you control all the characters sometime within the game it helps with strategy planning for later on.
The fixed party/leader doesn't bother me. I'm just glad that I DO get to choose who I want for the hunts and final boss/etc..
I'm just satisfied at the fact I can fight and explore as Fang :D.
