It's true that the game is very similiar to God of War, but the button mashing action game has been around for a while. it wasn't started buy God of War. ........ ( and let it be known that I love God of War ),... I usually don't care much about game ratings ( gamepro, gameinformer, EGM etc... )

but it feels like Dante's Inferno is getting a cold shoulder  ( ratings ) because of it similarities to GoW,....

my point being, Dante's Inferno is actually pretty good, because it's actually a little fun. It's no where near game of the year but it deserves a little more credit

That is why it is best to judge for yourself. Reviewers are un-reliable this gen.

Based on reviews only, it might be a victim of mediocrity.

If the game is genuinely good, people will buy it.

I played the game and "fun" is not a word that I'll use with this title. The combat is boring and repetitive, the save point system is really annoying, the puzzles are really stupid, the camera is not that great, the story is at the level of a 70's sexploitation film the music is not that good BUT the art style is quite good, it's creppy, disguisting and shocking all at the same time with one exception:

Satan, it's only a generic looking devil with a big penis swaying all the time ...... honestly at this point I was at the floor laughing, Have you see the devil in Fantasia? it's really shocking and really well done, the devil from the Passion? disturbing, creppy and well done The devil from dante's inferno looks more like a joke made by some high school students

Anyway just rent it, the game is not worthy.

I enjoyed the demo and picked it up along with Bioshock 2 yesterday. It definitely borrowed more than a couple of traits from GOW but that didn't make it any less enjoyable for me.

It's a type of game I enjoy, with a different story line. That's good enough for me.

Darksider's was another game that borrowed heavily from other games, that I enjoyed immensely, but was praised for what it borrowed, not scorned.

I do think it is being judged unfairly to how closely it resembles GOW. Kind of like how some games seem to get rated to highly because reviewers get caught up on the hype train. This game is getting the opposite.

I was only able to play the game at a friends house for a bit, but it really didn't entertain me for too long. Felt repetitive and the combat wasn't really anything extraordinary. Good game though. I think the reviews this game is getting is pretty accurate.
