Can I celebrate yet? Can I?!?

Yes you can! If they post losses with MW2, then nothing in the future can save them! And is this including WoW? Because it can't be! But I hope Activision falls hard.

If you don't have knowledge in accounting and/or finance why comment financial results?
the art of accounting is to have an accounting loss while making profits, not difficult to understand
as less accting profits mean less taxes

In the present case they booked an "impairment of intangible assets" of $409million
without this and other accting tricks their profit is $884 million for the quarter

when/why did Activision start buying back stock?

I'd hate to see the loss if MW2 wasn't in that quarter...

How does a business manage to lose money when one of their games sells 15 million in two months?

Activision Blizzard has been supporting 3 huge games for many years now (Starcraft 2, Diablo 3 & MW2) while having just one to get them out of the red (WoW). Really, AB has to start spending money more efficiently.

When: dunno, probably over next quarters
why: boost shareholder value

Ah, I see. That loss is after their one billion dollar stock by back, right? or is the stock buyback considered neutral since they now have the added worth of all that stock?

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

You reap what you sow Activision, milking the franchise to death is what killed it.

Wow, if even Activision posted a loss, I wonder who else could have made a profit besides nintendo. I predict that Ninty would have a monopoly on the industry in the future and everyone else would probably be bankrupt lol.

COD will soon oversaturate as well. With a new title every year, its bound to happen sooner or a bit later. Wonder what would happen to Activision then.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
