Forums - Sony Discussion - Buying a PS3, 2nd-hand or new... any advice?

Hey all,

since i need to get my hands on a Ps3 within a month I've been looking on several sites to get me one, even if it means to be a used ps3.

Now, i can get the 40gb for under 200 euro's but should i? What should I be looking out for? Are there any downsides besides the smaller harddrive? Should i go for 80GB? Or just buy the new slim?

Just looking for some advice on the matter, I might go for a new one or save me some money for the soon to purchase Full Hd tv...

Buy a new one. Show Sony your support! I would go with the slim. 120GB for only $299.99.

buy the new slim, bigger hard drive is always better with the slim sleek look, also the slim is much quieter and less power needed

I had a very bad experience with a used PS3 (Launch 60gig) paid $400 and the damn Blu-Ray drive wonked out a couple weeks later! Arrrrgh!

In conclusion, buy a slim. They are sexier looking anyways.

Hmm looks like someone wants to bankrupt Sony

If you care about Backwards compatibility go used.

If you're a linux junkie go non-slim used. Not sure if you can get PS3s with OtherOS new anymore.

All else. Go slim New.

I always advice people to buy all electronics new. many people sell their systems when they start to have "issues". You dont wanna be the one to buy those.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Buy it new. All early models are probably fated to die anyway.

Tease.

Definitely buy new, I mean, I've got a 60GB BC, and while I love it, it's already broken down once before, and I'm a little ifft with it at the moment (Although it seems to be running fine, but no harm being cautious, right?), the only thing that's stopping me selling it and buying a PS3 Slim is the fact that I can play my PS2 games on it (I've lost my PS2 o.O), otherwise, I'd play it safe and get a Slim, lol.

Buy new... old lasers are starting to burn out.
