ohh hard. on one hand we got the guy who made and help made nintnedo's systems and make them sell. We got the ship.
But the other guy came up with software that got the machines to get their momentum going for years and the reason why they last for a long time. We got the fuel
Honestly. Netheir, They both accomplished alot. But wouldn't go far without the other one
Having written a 15 page research paper on the North American Video Game Market Crash of 1983 and how Nintendo revived the market, I can confidently say Miyamoto even back when Yokoi was alive. It was Miyamoto's games that made them really successful in the arcade business. Aside from making Nintendo very successful in Japan, this, in turn, allowed them to introduce the NES (initially, in Japan, and then America). It was Miyamoto's games on the NES that made the system, and it was the NES that made Nintendo THE name in video games.
On top of that, it has been his games that have created the bulk of first party sales even through today. He even plays a role in hardware development now. Plus, his philosophy on game development and his ability to mentor newer game designers are invaluable.
Hard choice
But still Miyamoto stands victorious

it sold about 118 million, leo-j!
Definitely Miyamoto. Wait... Mario, DK, Zelda, Pikmin, Starfox... Yokoi can't beat that.
Miyamoto, but only because Yokio died in 96(?). Miyamoto has had more time to...well exist.
To the industry it's clearly Miyamoto, to Nintendo... still Miyamoto but a lot closer.
I think the games created by him have had more of a long term effect than the Gameboy.
If you asked anyone at Nintendo, they'd probably say Miyamoto (if only to cover up their shameful behavior concerning Yokoi in the past). But to be honest, I'd say it's much closer to a tie, or possibly even in Yokoi's favor. Yokoi isn't just responsible for the hardware that Nintendo made -the NES, Game Boy, and SNES- and more than one of the series, he's also the founder of the entire philosophical branch -"lateral thinking with withered technology"- which made Nintendo great, brought Nintendo down when they forgot it, and then brought them back to the top when they remembered.
There's also the fact that he trained Miyamoto.
