@Arius: Yeah, I think it's the best selling fighting game of all time.

That's really something. I wonder what the rest of the list looks like..I'd imagine the earlier Tekkens would be up there? SF2?

But none of those were close to 10m I don't think. Also, wasn't Sonic revealed to be a playable character in brawl at a media summit? MHTri cofirmed to have switched platforms at a media summit? I don't like to get over hyped, but this might be something to really keep an eye on.

 Yes.

Fall 2007 Media Summit revealed: Fire Emblem DS, Mario Superstar Baseball, Wii Music, Everybody Votes, SSBB delayed, Sonic in SSBB, first Wiiware games (FFCC, star solider, dr. mario, etc.) DS demos, Motorcycles in MKWii, and Monster Hunter 3 making the leap to Wii.

There was a february conference that announced Fatal Frame 4.

Fall 2008 Media Summit revealed: DSi unveiling, SD card storage, New Play Control announced, Punch Out announced, Sin & Punishment 2, first Tales of Graces footage, Samurai Warriors 3 announced, footage reel of a ton of first and third party games, etc.

There was no summit last year so this should be making up for that.

I hope they announce more WM+ games. As much as I love Wii sports resort, is frutrating that is the only quality WM+ game from them.

I'm expecting info on their upcoming titles as well as the recently announced RPGs they acquired.

Wonder if this means we'll get more confirmation on Tales of Graces or **false hope** a Kingdom Hearts, or even some info of DQX?

While third parties may be stepping back somewhat this year, those that are staying on bringing in worthwhile efforts (Capcom's MH3 and Tatsunoko, Fragile, Shiren, ARF, Tales of Graces) may also help gamers give Wii a second look in terms of its game library.

Is anyone expecting Zelda Wii to be unveiled? The magazines could have the first exclusive hands-on, that could be the surprises they were hinting about. If not, GDC seems the right place to officially announce with a proper title and a video, it due to the history of the recent Zelda announcements.

And if none happens, I'm totally sure it will be at E3. Zelda Wii is close.

I don't see it happening till E3. In fact, didn't they say precisely that, that it would be presented at E3?

They said they hoped to have the game ready to be shown at E3, and I think they meant gameplay and all.

But the official unveil could be done soon, probably during GDC, considering the past announcements. But yeah, I think they are waiting for E3 to reivindicate themselves in the eyes of the whole gaming community and most importantly Nintendo fans, because their past shows left a lot to be desired and lacked that "Megaton" announcement. This is Nintendo's year, I can feel it.

Remember that Nintendo is going away from the traditional context. Their games, as well as the press events, are handled differently from how Sony and Microsoft would do it. Personally, I think New Super Mario Bros. Wii was a definate "megaton." Look how much money it generated for the company.

@CladeLv250: Interesting. Good information. I don't expect too much from this as Nintendo still has E3 that will cover Q3/4 pretty well. I think they will definatly have games like Galaxy, Other M, Xenoblade and The Last Story. We may see another DS game.

I just hope they'll announce a final release date and show more footage for Metroid: Other M at this media summit. As well, it would be nice if they would take this opportunity to finally show and announce their backing of Dragon Quest advertising as they said they would be doing a year ago. If not here, then in E3.

Is Nintendo having this conference as a response to X10 event by Microsoft?

Maybe they know something big will be announced today for the 360 and they may need to counter them with even bigger announcements, because these things spread too fast on the web. I'm guessing they will have a big Natal overblow and that might hurt the Wii a bit, and Nintendo should have something big prepared, otherwise they wouldn't be having a media summit. Something's going on.

Also, he who laughs last laughs the best.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

If that is the case, then I bet the summit will focus on motion plus games to counter Microsoft's efforts.

it threatens to be better than their last two E3s glued together. - NGamer Twitter

Oh man, NGamer has some big explaining to do if they are over-hyping this event. I was excited before...now I've almost wet my pants.

Nintendo could u please just take my money and give me back my 3DS?!

I fear that most of the hype is coming from journalists to set a trap. I bet that this summiy will be just to confirm some release dates and some few tidbits and then journalists will go rampant saying that Nintendo is doomed and betrayed their fans and all those old lame stories.

I hope I am wrong

Its not so much that they're trying to 'set a trap' but more like Nintendo has both the most expectations of any company put on them...and yet on the same token they are scrutinized more than any other company.  In other words, the 'media' is never happy with anything Nintendo puts out.  And in many ways, neither is the fans.  Nintendo can even give fans EXACTLY what they want, such as Smash Bros Brawl or even the latest New Super Mario Bros, but in the end, half the people out there will scrutinize it as being 'less than it could have been' or 'more of the same' from Nintendo.  When they're also the same people who bow down and worship every Halo sequel or obsess over the next Final Fantasy no questions asked.

Now I'm not saying Halo or Final Fantasy are bad games, just that Nintendo has gotten to a point now where many people, both from the media and 'fans', put such high expectations on the games they make that its almost impossible for their games to ever meet those expectations.  While for other companies, it seems there's a different set of expectations...a certain level of understanding of what 'other' companies can and can't do.  Yet with Nintendo, there's these extra measurements for games that you would never find for even some of the most popular upcoming games like 'innovation' and 'nostalgia'.

Sure, its nice to expect that Nintendo makes some of the best games out there, but you shouldn't be setting the bar so high that everything has to be the epitome of amazing and new or else its 'average' and 'bad'.  In short, Nintendo is always expected to reinvent gaming with every title, and that's just not possible even for the company which has done that dozens of times now.  Not every game can be Ocarina of Time or Mario Galaxy.
