This thread needs to be locked. More people know the name of mario, than anybody else in the world. Mario is the reason alot of people got into gaming back in the day. What other gaming character has lasted for a good 25+ yrs. They don't need to do change mario in any way. That would be like changeing the formula for coke, all over again. This is nothing but a troll thread.

Now this is an irony in gaming life. Sir, you just made my day! :D

Mario appeals more to older and younger gamers than other types of games. The relative appeal of Mario is stronger for these groups than it is for adolescents (or those who think like adolescents).

This has a lot of merit, but there is a bigger reason as to why that is.

Mario for the older generation grew up on the original NES. These people are now in the 30+ age group. This is clearly past that adolescent age.

The younger generation that's into Mario is because the older Generation bought a Wii for gaming. blah blah blah about consoles leaving market behind....

The adolescent generation. Isn't into Mario because the PS brand was dominent. There was no Mario. The late PS1 and early PS2 is the current market.

This means that Mario does not need to change. It means that as we move into Wii2, PS4, X720... comes about these Mario players of the young generation become that adolescence. While there will be some overlap the general big mainstream push of the kids will phase out PS era generation from youth and an utter shift of opinion will occur.

All I have to say is just understand Disney. Except for a loudmouth of vocal anti disney teenagers(that also massivly overlap with video gamer) most people grow up with Disney from birth to death these days.

So Nintendo doesn't have to reinvent. It just has to wait and phase out the current teenager. It's been done for thousands of years. It will be done again.

anyways great article. It wasn't all that funny. but was an amusing read.

These facts are true. But one thing that I have noticed is that as gamers hit a certain age, even if they grew up playing Nintendo games, they turn on them -- almost as a "right of passage." Then when they reach a certain age, they return.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

agree with above for some reason between 17 and 30 people fall for all the BS hype from the HD machines then realize after 30 that life is more thna just BS hype and start hating the HDers

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

I like that homoerotic depiction of Mario in the first pic.
