Well, why does it matter? PS2 still read the CDs of it's predecessor, and PS3 still reads DVDs and Blu-ray... What's the issue? PS4 will likely read DVDs, Blu-Ray, and something else IF they decide to move away from it... But, I doubt that. They'll probably use 250 GB blu-ray discs for games, and probably have some kinda added support down the line if it's not too expensive... PS5 will probably read something different, but, by then, it wont matter. Blu-Ray will probably outlast the PS3, people aren't going to be so willing to throw out their perfectly good blu-ray players, when they can't notice a better sound quality and video quality...
You have to wait for things to break down, and wait for the masses of people to be ready to change. Don't base your PS disc readers based on past architectures. PS1, and PS2 used wired, slotted controllers and memory cards... however the PS3 doesn't. Just wait and see. CD wasn't enough for PS2, and DVD isn't enough for PS3. Blu-ray with a 250 GB disc may very well be, enough for PS4, and it probably would be cost effective, along with 2 CELLs, or whatever Sony's going to do... Just think... a PS4 with even 3 CELL BE.... awesome..
