Forums - Sony Discussion - Help a strapped-for-cash Canadian pick some cheap(er) PS3 games

Need I mention that God of War 3 is coming in a month?

Around the Network

http://www.videogamepricecharts.com/console/playstation-3 will let you know the used price of any game (in the US) so it might be useful to find cheap games and then check what they would be in Canada

anyways the following would be good

Motorstorm - $7.50
Mercenaries 2 World in Flames - $10
Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion - $11.50
Mirror's Edge - $12
Bionic Commando - $12
Burnout Paradise - $13.50
Devil May Cry 4 - $14
Assassin's Creed - $14
Ninja Gaiden Sigma - $14

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit
11/03/09 Desposit: Mod Bribery (RolStoppable)  vg$ 500.00
06/03/09 Purchase: Moderator Privilege  vg$ -50,000.00

I know Motorstorm is cheap, but Pacific Rift is many times more recommendable. PR has local multiplayer, more vehicles, more maps and more options in general. So unless Pacific Rift is really expensive (which I doubt), I would not recommend picking up the original.

It's 4x more expensive used. The requirement was cheap games, I think I'm one of the only people who actually posted cheap games. Personally I think the good cheap games on PS3 start around $12 and there are a bunch in the $15-20 range.

I have no idea what the situation is with regards to pricing, etc., and even though he wants cheap games, I must stress that there isn't much point in getting Motorstorm. I doubt the online community is active anymore, so you would end up with a very limited, SP only racing game. Your $7.50 is better spent elsewhere.

I'd recommend starting off with Uncharted, since it's Greatest Hits now.  And they have those controller + game bundles for only $5 more than a regular controller, if you need a spare.  Maybe get Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction as well, if you like action platformers.  It's also GH and bundled.

After that, fork up the $$$ for:

  • LittleBigPlanet - Fun platformer with endless content, and the best multiplayer game on ps3.  My favorite ps3 game.
  • Demon's Souls - If you like RPGs, you'll love this. Second favorite ps3 game!
  • Uncharted 2 - It's Uncharted, but better.  A lot better.
  • MGS4 - Assuming you're a Metal Gear fan.  It nicely revamps the basic gameplay of the series, streamlining the controls and allowing you to take multiple approaches to each situation (go in guns blazing or never fire a shot), and it's rife with fan service.  If you're an MGS fan, you'll love MGS4.  If you're not, then you'll probably be far less impressed given how much stuff is tossed in their just for the fans.  Oh sorry, it's cliche.
  • Killzone 2 - You seem to like Gears, and this feels like Gears in first person in some ways (thoguh no chainsaw =/).  Plus it's gorgeous, and the online is addicting once you delve deeply into it.

LBP, DS, MGS4, Uncharted 2, and Killzone 2 are my top five ps3 games, in order.  I honestly don't think you could go wrong with any of these, though keep in mind that a majority of the enjoyment from Killzone comes from the multiplayer, and it's not very jump-in/jump-out friendly.  You will have to sink some time into it.

Also, I happen to have a spare, sealed copy of Valkyria Chronicles lying around for a rainy day...  >_>
