Would you like to see a new full-fledged Donkey Kong game?

Yes, a 3D one by the team... 38 36.19%

Yes, a 2D one by the team that did NSMBW 34 32.38%

Yeah, whichever is fine, just gimme DK! 27 25.71%

No, I just want to see him in spinoffs 2 1.90%

No, there should never be... 4 3.81%

Total:105

It's refreshing to see so many people would be interested in a new DK title. When I made this thread I half expected the majority to answer that they'd never wanted to see another DK again.

I have no interest in a new DK game. Nintendo has too many other good IPs to waste time on DK.

I'd be fine either way. I've never been big on the Donkey Kong series and while tons of people loved the Donkey Kong games by Rare, I wasn't much of a fan. Both the SNES titles and Donkey Kong 64. But that option for making a 3D Donkey Kong game by the people who made Mario Galaxy may just be exactly the thing that could get me into the series as well as add new innovation to the series since Rare cannot work on it anymore.

Frankly at this time, I'd rather see a lot of other titles before a Donkey Kong game.  Such as Star Fox, Pikmin, Duck Hunt or a console Kirby title.  And its not like DOnkey Kong hasn't gotten a ton of titles over the years, including a few on the DS and GC.

Very true, that. But those have all been spinoffs. The last truly 'real' mainline DK game was DK64, which released like a decade ago...

However, judging by all these games DK got, as well as his countless appearances in other (Mario) games, he's quite popular, and therefore, profitable. So a new 'true' DK game would make sense. Imo, that is. Besides, past mainline DK games have all sold 3 to 9 million copies, and even a lot of the 'lesser' DK games have crossed the 1 or 2 million mark.

Clearly, it would seem to be a wiser move for Nintendo to release a DK game than say, a Kirby, F-Zero or Pikmin game, all of which have sold far less in the past. Not to say I wouldn't really love any of those games, 'cos I would. Very much.

Most definitely from a business perspective it would make sense.  But like some have said, all those games that sold 3+ million were made by rare.  So trying to make a 'main' Donkey Kong game now would pretty much take the effort of what they've done with Mario, Metroid and Zelda this generation.  In other words, 'revive' the series under a whole new development group and try to make it something completely new.  And certainly I'd love for them to do so, but they need to lock down which group is the best for them to do that.

The Mario Galaxy team, which previous made one of those Donkey Kong spin-off games, may just be the best team for that.  However they're still working on Mario Galaxy 2.

Absolutely no interest tbh

i hated dkc back in the days

we have mario games, why do we need carbon copies of them with different charachters

its like nintendo making their own rip offs

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

HELL YEAH!

A new 3D DK in the vein of DK 64 would be the icing on the cake for this gen, but I think Nintendo should save it for a next gen launch title.

Actually, now that I think of it, it's always possible that Retro is working on DK, isn't it?

Star Fox sold 3m and Star Fox 64 sold over 4m (according to this site). Those are pretty good numbers! The other starfox games don't count for obvious reasons. If Nintendo 1st party made another proper starfox game in the vein of Lylat Wars, I'm sure it would sell like hot cakes.

Dont see why they cant do both, like they did with Mario galaxy and NSMW, just a year apart. Both would probably do well. Doubt Id by either though as I stick to my 360 but would still like to see them made.

That's why I talked about Kirby, F-Zero and Pikmin. I never mentioned Starfox, as I'm sure that'd sell well too. And personally, yes, I'd LOVE a new Starfox, and one like the N64 one at that. And I'm 100% sure it would sell very, very well.

Still, I'm pretty convinced a 3D DK game by the Mario Galaxy team, with proper resources, development time and marketing, would sell like extremely well. Donkey Kong is simply a much bigger IP, and appeals to a broader audience. Look at the number of DK games (even excluding the spinoffs). Now look at the Starfox ones. Yeah.
