Forums - Sales Discussion - No more threads on shipped vs sold stuff

I think the issue must still be in how exactly they define "sell-in", because for whatever reason a certain percentage of the units they are selling-in don't seem to sell-through

Yeah I've often wondered about this...a lot of units probably "fall through the cracks". Lets say one example I can think of, Wal Mart display kiosk units. Theres probably a lot of those, and further they probably break and need replacing a LOT. You add this up across all retail stores and it could become a significant, if minor, number of units, that is counted as "sold in", but does not go to any consumer sell through. What about promotional units, ones given away in contests and such?

There are probably a small but significant percent of consoles that are "sold in" that never end up in consumer hands.

I do think PS3 fans have a legit gripe, for once, about the sell through versus shipped discrepancy on this site. Unless Sony is playing loose with their shipped figures somehow. If anything, I would think the Sony sell through would be greater than the other guys right now due to their shortage issues.

I'm not going to question ioi and the data give to us.  I think the problem with some folks lies within PS3 shortages in December and the final difference being a million more than that of the 360 and Wii.

Of course considering the shortages, maybe retailers ordered that extra million and Sony is counting it (someone mentioned this in another thread).

Should adjustments be made?  Maybe, maybe not.

However, I'm not in charge of VGChartz.  I don't know 100% how they get their data.  And if ioi is confident in the numbers then all I can do is accept them and move on.

FYI, the correct Wii shipped number is 67.45 as of December 31, 2009.

I don't trust vgchartz figures.
Waiting for my ban...

Oh and by the way. ioi you're not very perceptive arn't you?

It's all getting quite old and annoying now - "especially from the PS3 side."

I wonder why it is from the ps3 side lol.

When the numbers say that there are over 2million PS3's still on shelves, then the numbers have a high probability of being incorrect. Such a discrepancy will only lead to people trying to figure out why it exists in the first place.

The PS3 was hard to locate in certain places, so to believe that they are on shelves is nothing short of...pardon me but, redonkulus.

Granted your website is free and your service is greatly appreciated, its still a service and if someone see's a way in which it can be improved we as a community should be able to look into it.

He has to base his numbers and estimates on a foundation of facts. If there are no numbers from a small area how can he estimate with out the foundation.

So his numbers are as accurate as possible.

And he doesn't seem to be a fanboy of a particular gaming company

Some of the more critical should show us their numbers

this is just the proof that they know the ps3 sold waay more then they stated... i kinda think ioi dont want people to know ps3 is actualy way better in the market than it looks..
but EY
they know it better then sony themselfs right.

i will laugh my ass of when the new sony report says march 2010 36mill ps3 sold and VGC still has it on 32.50 or some

My current Soul Silver Team:

I think Sony may want to be more clear and concise on their sales reporting.
