I am one of the few people who have questioned and wanted to discuss that issue. I am fine with your decision, I wont bring it up anymore. But this thread has disappointed me a whole lot.

You wouldnt have questioned it if those adjustments were in favor of the PS3. That's what disappoint a lot of us....

I was one of the few people who thought the PS3 did not sell a million in a week when adjustment come, I questioned the huge numbers PS3 had late December because it was out stock many places.

Check your self before replying to me. I am not in the mood for your typical response.

I don't care, I just said what a lot of people think.

Please, I don't own Sony stocks nor am I affraid to critized them. I like sales disscussions and to be told to shut up about a subject that needs further talk is frustrating both ways.

Your statement is a bit contradictory.  If not put to any standard then theres no proof that it is accurate.  The only other option I see to keep credibility to the site rather than having a standard is to reveal sources

In a sense they do because without the community VGC wouldnt exist.  Now I could be wrong but I wasnt aware of anyone paying for VGC data.  Im pretty sure VGC makes money off of ads.  Which means VGC gets paid by us coming to the site.

Ah damn, whadoyaknow, I was gunna fix that, but I didn't think you would push the point.

My point is that none of us have any right to hold them to any standard. They hold themselves to their highest standard and are doing their best to get into business territory. Revealing sources is not going to happen HAHA! That's like giving away the Famous Amos Cookie recipe!!

VGC will eventually be an actual business, subscribed to by companies. I exect this is part of the reason why this crackdown is occuring. IMO, to outsiders, it looks worse that people are trashing the site and numbers without repurcussion, than it is to see recitivists being banned.

On top of that, there is at least one source of people that despise VGC and write hate blogs about our credibility every day. These people have nothing better to do than start arguments on our site from new accounts, and trash ioi and the numbers for seemingly no reason. VGC has been quoted by dozens upon dozens of highly respected news sources and is quickly becoming a highly respected news source. Some people though, cannot bring themselves to put their arguments behind them. To some people, it won't matter if VGC become NPD.

yeah, psrock is actually a stealth sony hater! Over the last few months it's been nothin' but negativity from this guy. However, I'd call it level-headedness.

To hell with all these warnings to the noobs that don't realize the rules, ban their asses anyway, they'll learn. A ban is not the end of the world and it's not like they can't still visit the site to see what's up. Oh and good job ioi, shit was getting played out.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

This was another point i was going to make but forgot.

@theprof00 - I disagree that VGC will be subscribed to by companies seeing how the basis of the site is the data is FREE.   The direction of the site seems that more of a Videogame website like ign rather than that of NPD.    but hey I could be wrong though.

I disagree with the rule but its not my site.  So thats that.

PSrock was given this reply in a recent thread "@psrockI suggest you go back and read the thread (specifically my posts) - things may be a little more clear then"-ioi

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=99553

Everything was explained, and while I love psrock, ioi did explain several times (at least 4 times) and did not tell anyone to "shutup".

As far as your disagreement goes:

"For VGC 3.0 we are planning 3 levels of access for data:

  • Free where you can see top 20 charts each week (top 50 rankings), top 10 per console (top 30 rankings), hardware, top 10 preorders (top 30 rankings), new features like milesones, weekly records. Will be enough to have an overview and to discuss trends.
  • Standard membership (~$7.99 per month) where you can see top 200 per week, top 50 per console, top 50 per publisher, top 100 preorders, extra comparison tools, maybe top level download charts, maybe no ads.
  • Premium membership (for industry) where you can see all data as well as some fancy tools for analysing revenues, year on year data, anticipation metrics plus much more.

So you won't HAVE to pay to view data but if you do subscribe it gives you access to more data. Unfortunately, the data-collection side to VGChartz has got to a point now where it is costing more to run than it is generating in ad revenue, therefore we need to move to a new costing model to continue to grow and improve the service. The data certainly won't be going anywhere but you'll only be able to see top-level data for free with the new site. It's more a case of adding new stuff and charging to use it than charging for what is already there."

I understand you disagree with the rule, as do I. However, I don't think this trend will continue in the future. It makes the most sense to do exactly as you and I said, provide people with a stickied thread containing information pertaining to shipped vs sold and adjustments, then, upon repeat, warn and lock. If it happens again, ban. This is only slightly more harsh than normal, which is people laughing at the person after they've repeatedly refused to listen. There are pros and cons to this new rule.

One con is that some people will find it unfair. (IMO it is very fair)

One pro is that it will keep posters from shoving pertinent threads out of the hot topics list. These kinds of threads additionally cause so much controversy that it envelops a good portion of the audience and subsequently even prevents new topics being created. So, not only are they dilutatory, but diversionary as well.

ANother con is that people will say we ban people who disagree with us.

Another pro is that the forum will look a lot cleaner and more professional to potential investors.

etc etc. I think the pros outweigh the cons, but we can agree to disagree if you'd like.

I just wanted to clarify that I'm not trying to attack you PDF. I like you as a poster and enjoy your contributions. I am just very passionate about this site. ioi is an awesome dude and he doesn't afraid of anything. He nursed this site from infancy, and it will be huge one day. I am happy to be a part of this inspirational collegiality. Like I said, when I first got here, I went on and on about sales vs shipped and so many people graciously explained it to me. I conformed because so many people went out of their way to explain it despite my indignance to understand the very simple explanation. Many won't conform, and so should they be repurcussed against.

"the PS3 side"

Credibility and integrity just took a nose dive. You did your self a great disservice by doing that. People have legit concerns and you ban them becasue of the "side" they are on.

As i see it its all your own doing.

1 Quiet adjustments are problem #1 people want things explained.
2 shipped vs sold

You don't do a good job explaining your site, and its way of doing things let alone your actions.

# 1 people almost feel lied to and cheated by doing that. From what i read numbers were adjusted down and that's becasue of some numbers Nintendo published ??? then Sony released theirs and a big problem erupted. Things like this should be front page news, explained and detailed. So every can read it for them selfs, not argue about it in every thread.

# 2 Front page DISCLAIMER the solution is that simple.

Also #3 not every one lives on the forum 24/7, some are occasional users they miss a lot of info. Having the info on the front page would make everyone's life easier.

I don't see anything on the front page about these big adjustments, if i enter a thread about itand post my opinion i will likely be attacked by these "elitists" and probably get a ban for defending my "WRONG SIDE" opinion. And i like many have legit answers we wish to be answer'd by people who are more experienced with this stuff. We dont want to be attacked beacuse we are from the "wrong side"

People question the numbers becasue they don't understand them, they just want answers.

You are baning people for trying to understand things, this is wrong. Every one and anyone banned due to arguing about this should be unbanned. They are as frustrated as any one else and just want some thing explained. They should not be punished for that.

VGC reputation will suffer greatly because of this, and it is not that good to begin with. Things were dealt with in a very wrong negative manner.

Ok!

I've got 2 words to say: Thank. You. It's been flooding the hot topics section as of late, and it's always the same few people whining about the same things. Admittingly, I'd almost love to see their faces if in 10 days, we shaved off 20 million PS3 sales or so, but at the same time, it'd also play into their thoughts more. Nonetheless, I'm happy with the numbers, and I'm glad to know that you don't cave to pressure from those who whine.

Questions are meant to be asked and if you do not wish to answer them then make it a rule. Sounds familiar to something...

Damn, how stupid someone can be... it amazes me. Good for this thread. I hope the "Oh my, the numberz are not they way I wanted them to be" ends once and for all.
