Forums - Sales Discussion - Something big is about to break for consoles.

This doesn't make any sense. The guy must be mistaken about why there weren't any stock. All three manufacturers announcing and releasing new hardware within the next few weeks? Very doubtful.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

It could be 700k stock in retailers + 1.3M units sold and waiting for delivery. If theres a new model coming in it does make sense that there would be shortages but a discrepency in retail sellthrough and Sony financials as they haven't made delivery yet.

that still leaves 700k ps3's unaccounted for by your logic, it was 2.7m the difference.

I wasn't quoting specific numbers. However sold to retailers = sold on vgchartz books for the previous quarter. I'll leave it up to Brett to make the decision on this as he has far more data than he ever shares with us.

Wohoo have I finally gotten through??

At least do me a favor, get them to recheck their figures, even if it comes back the same, alot of people will be much happier this way, trust me.

I had to correct a typo. Sony's PS3 sales on financial books = Vgchartz retail sales for the quarter. Any long term discrepency is systematic though I'll leave it up to Brett to decide if/what action needs to be taken.

Absolutely true, however, why is the PS3 so scarce at EVERY online and physical site? I didn't bother to check for Wii/360 on other areas as well, but, its very fishy to me.

Could be something small, like a new PS3 model (200GB) for example. Or...

they already have a 250gb slim

Wii HD coming OMG

...

On a seroius note, this might be multi-colored Wii's. I don't have idea about the others.

I hope its the Black Wii if anything,  I could handle another color but I would prefer black.

No that is not correct.  VGChartz is sales to consumers from retailers.  This means people actually walk out of the store with a console.

Sony PS3 sales are orders placed by retailers. The consoles may not even have been manufactured yet let alone shipped.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Sony Sales on their books for the PS3 = 6.5M = 6.4xxM that are listed as retail sales on Vgchartz. Thats what I was saying.

I'm not sure - if any new consoles were on the way we'd have heard something about it...

If anything, it would be new SKUs.

Or more likely, Costco just needs more sensible buyers. ;)

Hmm, a check of my local area (online) indeed showed pretty much no local PS3's (250 or 120) in Gamestop or Best Buy.

Both had plenty of 360.

Well, Sony needs to get on the ball then. Looks like 360 will have a good January and February NPD :0

A bit weird, I still think Sony may in a weird way be trying not to sell too many PS3's since they lose money. Although, I think the 250GB PS3 is probably ok, so they would want to sell those.

Just a temporary shortage bubble post holiday I'm sure though.
