Didn't know if anyone listened to either band. Both were the primary driving forces in Eastern and Western electropop, and the various branches of the music.
For those that didn't know, if there was no YMO, there would be no good video game music. Thanks to the groundwork they laid for the technology and sounds in their songs, we'd probably be missing tons of great Capcom, Konami, and maybe even some Nintendo songs on our old 8-bit machines.
Likewise, Kraftwerk was earlier, but their style is definately less definitive of what we consider great NES music, since they're so Western. Nevertheless, any European made video game owes a huge debt to Kraftwerk. They also were probably the first band to ever utilize electronic drums in a song.
Kraftwerk's "Das Model" from 1978:
(hopefully this works)
And YMO's "Rydeen Live (1979)
Hopefully everyone can view, and fully appreciate the awesomeness that these bands contributed to video game music.
Ah darnit, can a tech-savy mod edit my post with proper embedding codes? I thought HTML would work
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
