A new trailer for Lufia: Estpolis has surfaced, and quite an amazing source of information it has provided. Not only does it show off a healthy chunk of gameplay and graphics of the game itself, but gives us a Japanese release date for the DS remake/update of the SNES title. Which appears to be 2/25/2010.
Within the trailer itself can be seen a total of seven playable characters, all with dedicated voice acting and selectable actions to perform both in and out of battle. As well, gameplay and exploration can be seen to be entirely free roaming on a 3D plane, much like in many MMORPGs, but also featuring jumping and platforming elements such as in Zelda or Golden Sun. And many innovative exploration elements, at least for RPGs, were shown off. Such as attacking the environment to progress or grabbing enemies across ledges and using them to solve puzzles (like in Zelda/Mario).
Similarly, it seems that combat can be performed at any time by attacking enemies that appear on screen. And while in combat, you are able to select between party members on the fly (while fighting) by selecting their image on the touch screen below.
The game also doesn't seem to be skimping out on production values. Showing quite an array of FMV sequences and the afore mentioned voice acting. This may just turn out to be one of the hidden gems of the DS library and even one of the best RPGs of the year.
