Forums - Sony Discussion - MAG Review: Gamespot vs IGN

Although Gamespot lost credibility after the Kane & Lynch case, their pieces are usually well written, something I cannot say about most major gaming sites.

^ Err the Kane & Lynch preview was actually fair? Brutal but fair, as it turns out a lot of average reviews followed.

Gamespot is still the better reviewing site in my opinion considering that most of their scores do turn out to be deserved whenever I play a game or go against their judgement. Same with G4TV.

mag is still bad...

Holy crap, that Gamespot video is amazingly informative. It ought to be incorporated into the game to play before you start the training mission, lol.

I suppose they both serve their purpose of informing potential customers. For IGN's they list more nitpicks in their video which are good to help get an idea for issues about the game. Gamespot's, however, describes the game more and goes into detail about all the modes and features without sounding complacent and makes for a great watch before you popped in the game for the first time.

I thought PS3 fans used to despise Gamespot and love IGN?

They switch places every 2 months or so....

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

I read both IGN and Gamespot on a constant basis, and though they both have their strong points, I feel that Gamespot wrote a better review.

First off they didn't moan about the graphics. This is a 256 player online only FPS. WE KNOW that the graphics aren't going to be on the same level as some other shooters of this generation. Anyone that moans about the graphics in this game needs to get themselves a clean nappy, and then take a look at a game like WoW. The graphics in that are far from award winning. The graphics do what they need to.

Also there was no moaning about "Oh SVER was winning so we changed sides". The whole point of this game is, win or lose, you are dedicated to your chosen faction and if need be it is up to you and your teammates to bring them back up from a losing streak.

The only issues that gamespot pointed out were valid ones that one should note before purchasing the game. IGN for some reason felt the need to state that MAG has low replay value due to the level cap being achievable if you work your ass off day and night for 2 weeks. What about the people that are playing it for other reasons?

Anyway.. Gamespot was more valid and fair. Thats not to say IGN was a complete load of tripe. But the scales of justice tip in GS's favour for this one.
