Forums - Microsoft Discussion - ME 2 The hype?

CommonMan said:
Err. . . I like that you can't build hype in Japan because the user base is more informed. Really!?!?

Nothing to see here really, except that he claims companies buy reviews, which has never been proven and would be considered libel if he mentioned specific sites/magazines. Mass Effect 2 is actually as good as the reveiws say, just like Uncharted 2 was, neither of them were overhyped.

I do agree that overhyping happens, and can hurt an experience (MGS4 for me) but this is just badly written (translated from ?) and uses carefully worded fanboy arguments.

For me MGS4 lived up to every single ounce of hype that it had. I have also been a fan of the MG series since the "I Feel Asleep" days on the good ol' NES.

From what I hear ME2 deserves every bit of hype and good reviews it has recieved....and then some.

Isn't this what everyone on here basically says for every game that gets silly hype on here? If you hype a game it can only ever meet expectations and never exceed so you're setting yourself up to be disappointed.

I don't know what site he was visiting though to say he got over hyped on ME2, for such a huge game it got very little attention. I would argue on here for example there has been more hype towards M.A.G, GT5, GOW3, Halo Reach and GT5 than ME2. Note only one of those titles was close to release.

Perhaps I've missed the hype though by avoiding the official thread and any potential spoilers contained within them.

He does bring up a good point: Unfounded hype is a terrible thing.

But the ME2 hype was different, in that the fans themselves were building the hype. EA helped a bit, sure. But we did most of the work in that regard. It also helped that the game is a critical, commercial, and hype success.

But the thing in the link... Is weird. It basically says companies solely buy the hype. That all highly rated game are bought through buying reviewers out.. Then the small reviews sites that don't pay give their true opinion... Ha... hahahahahahahaha.

If anything, a not well known site could purposefully give the game a bad score to get traffic.
He also said that the game was just decent.. Maybe he should do his homework on a game next time, and maybe, I don't know, play the prequel that makes the experience more enjoyable.

Did anyone else read that garbage?

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Obligatory dick measuring Gaming Laptop Specs: Sager NP8270-GTX: 17.3" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED Matte LC, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3, 750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive

Incredibly badly written article. Wondered how long it would take before these threads started popping up. To be fair there's not that many of them and that's because the game actually delivers on almost every front.

Playing: Borderlands(great co-op,HUGE amount of content),Too Human(better late than never lol),Saints Row 3(Penetrator ftw),Minecraft 360,Harry Potter Lego.

Patiently waiting for:  Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2

I guess I missed the point of the article, he talks about hype and he "fell" for the ME2 hype only to crash hard, he never discusses what he didn't like. The article would have been better if he would have stated some reasons for ME2 not being deserved of the praise it is receiving.

Of course the problem is there is little to complain about with ME2 that he would have a hard time coming up with some good points.

Its all hype but few games deliver on that hype, and I believe ME2 does.

Fuck... I'm dead!

What? ME2 had good advertising. Not great. To be honest it wasnt that hyped at all. Nowhere near the hype levels of Halo or Killzone or Forza or GT or Gears or Uncharted etc etc. It was really quite, especially on the interwebz right up until about 1 month before release. Noone forsaw it hitting 96 on meta. And I think if you asked anyone 6 months ago what they thought ME2 would meta, they would have said 90, 91. IT was oner of those games that happens once in awhile.
