Look at Those Legs Game of the Day

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

# of Copies Sold % of Total Sales
First Week Sales 0.65 20.38
First Month Sales 1.38 43.26

Description: Today's Game of the Day is Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Since its release Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has sold an impressive 3.19 million copies worldwide, and outstanding total for a game that is essentially a demo of the upcoming full Gran Turismo 5 title. It is surprising how much of the game's total sales came in, it's first month of release, with 43.26% of the game's total sales coming in that period. The game is still selling a few thousand each week, but is unlikey to get the First Month Sales/ Total Sales percentage below 40.  So why has Gran Turismo 5 Prologue not seen strong sustained weekly sales, is it because of competition in the racing genre, a percieved lack of qaulity, or are most fans just waitingfor the full Gran Turismo 5? Vote in the poll, then let us know what you think.

Updated: Poll taken down now that follow up article has been posted.

I remember reading something about a PSN version, does version exist and is it included in the sales date?

EDIT: Sorry, I should have read the last option. *blush*

A puff peace?.

A game like prologue will only ever sell to the more hardcore fans of the series. It kind of fits in between being a demo and being a full release.

People who want Gran Turismo but aren't massive fans will just wait until the full game is released as that will contain all of the content of prologue and more anyway.

I actually think it has much better legs than you would expect. As already pointed out, it's just an appetizer for the full game of a very established franchise for those, who already count the days until release... yet it still keeps selling. This week about 15k, imo that's a lot... also if you look at the graphs, it's actually just the Americas curve which is really flat (spare holiday spikes). Part of that is probably because of bundles in Europe and especially in Japan, but anyways - frontloaded, but not as frontloaded as one might have thought.

VGC doesn't track downloaded games and I bet it sold a lot on PSN. Hell for all we know it could be 4 million including downloads. Also people know its just a demo and people knew the full game was coming eventually. That's my opinion.

I'll do a signature later

This is the most one sided poll yet. Anybody else have any thoughts, even if you think the main answer is "people waiting for the full version", do you have an explanation for another one of the factors that may have impacted sales?

According to Vgchartz is GT 5:P by far the best selling Prologue.

Let us compare the "small Gran Turismos":

GT5:P 3.19 Mio including downloads even more maybe 4 Mio.

GT4:P 770k

and Gt Concept 2001 was even lower 417k

If we take the GT4 Prologue as indicator then GT5 should sell about 500% more thats 50 Mio GT5

But we all know its impossible but I cant see a reason to be worried infact if Gt5 would just sell 3 times better it would be around 12 Mio and thats almost obscene.

And the poll clearly shows what the people are thinking.

I expect Numbers between 9 Mio and in best case 13 Mio.

Well i think it is still selling very well to be honest lmao
