Forums - Microsoft Discussion - PS3 Getting Netflix & Cross Game Chat , Will you Continue to Pay For Gold?

I own both consoles...so while I may have a more informed opinion, it is still, JUST my opinion...

I pay for live because IMO the interface is easier to use, and has multiple perks that I either can't find (poor design) or don't exist on the PSN. Currently those would include: a party system, voice messages, cross game chat/messaging, friends sorting, a better download system (I downloaded the same game twice on PSN, because I didn't remember downloading it before and unlike Live, it didn't tell me I already had), and Netflix/Twitter/Facebook integration.

BEYOND all of that however I have a long list of friends that I play with on Live and many more mullti-player games that I play on Live (so far my PS3 is a single player only experience).

So in short (or was that long...) nothing the PSN does will stop me from paying for Live. When LIVE ceases to be of use to me I will stop, but it is unlikely the PS3 will influence that much at all. THAT however is just my opinion, I'm sure there are lots of folks on here, with their own.

I totally agree with this.

It baffles me to think that there are people out there that have both consoles and think that PSN is just as good, or in some cases, better than Live. The only area where it wins is in the cost. Live not only has more features, those features are consistent across all games and the implementation of them is slick. Most of my gaming friends also own a PS3 and 360 and they use them in the same way I do - PS3 for exclusives only. Even the ones that had a PS3 first and were sceptical about paying for Live when they got their 360s soon changed their minds when they spent a bit of time using Live. I understand that PSN may be good enough for some, and that's fine, but to say it's as good or better than Live in general terms is complete nonsense. It's still not even close.

there are 30 million 360 out there, how many pay for the Gold package?

Offtopic i know, but does anyone use Face book or Twitter?

I just dont like face book, im not some 15 year kid with long shaggy hair and skatesboard, just not my thing.

Twitter is just lame, look at me im taking a dump! wohhoo!

OT-  I already hate paying for XBL but im glad i didnt have to wait for those great features to come 3 years later than the rival systems.

Yes, I do. And I use my 360 get update my Twitter and check my Facebook some times, though it's easier to hop on my Crackberry and look at stuff.

I've had LIVE for 5 years - and have had PSN for 2 years. I have tried and tried to find value in PSN but don't.

I'll stick to paying for LIVE over the free PSN, thank you.

well, i logged onto live the other day, checked some new stuff demos etc. and then just logged off it was boring. just nothing to do.

on psn everything is just better, i can play my online games when i want without having to pay a penny. i mosly use the psn features weekly

imo theres no comparison to be made. live has a few extra bells but not worth a charge.

Funny you say that and I'd have Gold membership for 5 years.

I'm grown and can make my own decision, financially and the like. I love not paying for something. However, free doesn't equal better. I enjoy LIVE. I liked LIVE so much I bought a chatpad for one of my controllers. I enjoy it.

As a reviewer, I have to be unbiased. I approach every game the same way - sell me on why anyone should pay $50, $60 for it.

As you know, look at the membership numbers. More people are paying for LIVE than PSN. That's a given. But just as you say you wouldn't pay anything for LIVE, several, myself included, say we would. Really, it's $30 a year for LIVE - barely $3 a month for it. And that's .10 a day. I find value in LIVE - and just SMH at PSN. A lot like it because it's free - but let Sony wise up and start charging for the service, I can bet you folks perception of PSN would change.

As stated, I avoid PSN like the plague. It often leaves me confused - even after spending time with it and trying to get into the mind of PSN lovers and wonder 'What do they see in it beside it being free?'

likewise i avoid live like the plague.

like i said i logged into live and logged out it was boring and nothing to do apart from roam marketplace.

Live is not for browsing the marketplace, it's for playing games.  If you aren't playing xbox games or using any of the multiplayer options, there is no reason for you to pay for it.  It is true that PSN is free, but I never found any real value in it.  I still don't see the point of Home and I just never felt connected to anything or anyone on that system to the same extent as I have with Live.  I have other gripes, but after messing around with Warhawk, I haven't felt the need to run out and get any more PS3 multiplayer games.

I give that post a 9.2.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

So you find value in Live because it allows you to play online, but no value in PSN because it allows you play online. I see.

No, I never found any value in PSN because it wasn't a clean interface that smoothly connected me with others through all the games.  XBL does a great job of being everpresent and consistant across all the games.

Both allow you to play on line.  XBL is just a better interface overall.  So I don't mind paying for it.  PSN is still rather lackluster.

I give that post a 9.1.

I have read through this thread and it's all about "I pay for live because..this...that...the other".

Rubbish.

You pay for Live because you have no choice.

Don't pay and no online gaming, no online anything. You have nothing but a standalone console like the PS1.

This is good enough for some but obviously not for most.

If you are happy to pay for live, great. It's your money so you do what you want with it.

When justifing something that is mandatory, as in this case, it is like making a lame excuse.

It's like saying "I love to pay my taxes"  without adding  "because I really don't have a choice and I would get fined or put in prison otherwise"

Just my opinion.

My intention is not to offend.

You are right.  I also pay for DirecTV because they won't give it to me for free.  I mean, broadcast TV is free, right?  Those BASTARDS at DirecTV make me pay to bring me more channels.  Viva la resistance!

Sure, it would be great if XBL Gold was free, but it's not.  In my experience it has been a superior product to PSN.  If it was inferior I might have a different opinion about it's value but until that day (which goes beyond Netflix and cross game chat), I feel I am getting what I pay for from XBL.

I give that post a 9.1.

I approve of this reply.

i have never paid for online.
but aion it's tempting! oh god.
oh yeah, PS3 also have playtv, my country it's moving to DVB-T

for those comparing XMB to XNE, XMB won a emmy for user interface. it's fast easy .

XNE it's cluster of menu, plastically a inverted axis XMB.

ps3 inferiority is minimal and 2 main features lacking are already announced for next firmwares.

so in the end it's all up for personal opinion of what you like more.

even so i never would pay for xboxlive or similar service, when there is another doing the same for free.

Live is more social. Girlfriend plays with her clan and there is always something to do, someone to talk to, and she dresses up the avatar all the time.

I'm sure Live is not worth it if you don't have any friends online, which is a lot sadder than not having friends IRL.
